This is what I like most about his game. Not only does he hit the offensive boards, but he has a knack for timing the ball coming off the rim for putbacks. That can be really demeaning to other teams. Think Odom to the Jazz.
 
If Derrik Favors progresses only at the rate CJ Miles has then the guy will be a solid presence in the league. CJ couldn't do a damn thing for 3 years. This guy is starting from a higher platform than CJ, with more upside potential and NBA height and weight.
 
It's a very good point. However, since the trade, I've watched a few Highlight vids of both his and Davin Harris's performances. Looks promising and I also believe that Favors looks like he could have some excellent potential. Harris has husle and drive, plus he can hit jumpers behind the Arch. We need outside shooters badly.

I was thinking the same thing after watching the video (thanks for posting, Chad) and hearing his comments about rebounding. Millsap came into the league without much of a shot and now has a very good mid-range game. Not saying Favors will follow the same curve, but we need guys with great attitudes that want to go after the ball.

All Utah needs Derrick to do right now is just rebound and play defense. Perhaps we now have a "Millsap" behind Millsap. That's what was lacking by letting Boozer go and making Paul the starter.

It will take some time for the new guys to fit on and learn the plays, but I think this team is going to better than what people think, even without Sloan at the helm.
 
Give him to Malone.

Teach him footwork, teach him conditioning, teach him a mid-range game, teach him to be nasty, teach him to talk about himself in the third person, teach him professional wrasslin', teach him to sire several children out of wedlock that all grow up to become world class athletes.

When he does all that and Favors is an All-Star, hire Malone to be HC.

Millsap is playing against the big boys now. He could dominate against subs, not so much as an undersized starter. I think Paul also has the mentality that he has to "pace" himself in order to play 35 mins/per. I would really like to see Favors develop into the starter by mid-season next year and have Millsap go back to anchoring the second unit.
 
Yes and he looks like he has a mid-range shot in that video. There's a lot of "teach him to shoot" being thrown around, but nobody has claimed to have actually watched him play yet. Where is it coming from that he can't shoot?

Also, even though I've been hating on Big Al this year, if Favors' J develops, he could be the perfect complement to AJ.

Favors seems to have a good feel for the game (makes good reads/passes), is good in the PnR, working the baseline (and finding open space around the basket), running the floor, grabbing offensive rebounds. Also, for all the talk of Favors being a 4, I think he'll round out into a legit defensive 5, with his athleticism making up for his below average length. Perhaps, the perfect player to fit in beside a low post threat like Big Al.

If Big Al ever learns how to pass or draw a foul...

I have no hope of Little Al doing either. He's played competitive, organized basketball for about 10 years now. If he isn't doing it by now, I see almost no chance he'll ever do it. I agree though that Favors could totally play the 5.
