Official Draft Thread

The question was who were the best defenders: PER only does a good job of quantifying offensive numbers.

I hope something is in the works to move the Jazz up a few places in the draft. Even if this Minny talk is garbage, I'm hoping KOC is looking at as many options as he can.

This thread practically has to shut down until the workouts start. We're not going to know who stacks up until the big men face off. It will be interesting to see which players take on all comers, and which of them try to shy away from the competition.

Donatas Motiejunas got moved from nbadraft.net's 2010 draft. Bummer if they have info - that was my guy this year. Even if the Jazz didn't pick him, having him in the draft still helps them.

Locke on 1320 right now: he got three draft videos from the Utah Jazz

"Cannot draft Aldrich" because his upside and his downside is Jeff Foster (lol).

Can't draft Whiteside because his upside is Camby but his downside is Sean Williams or worse [without the bad attitude]. And Whiteside just camped in the paint looking for the next blocked shot--something that he can't get away with in the NBA. [Then again, didn't he average like 5 BPG?

Ekpe Udoh: the expert guy on the phone is skeptical about guys who transfer and come out of nowhere [Udoh really didn't emerge until this year]. Locke thought that Udoh's shot wasn't bad not outstanding, either. Guy on the phone said that none of the three are really convincing offensively.

[Well, as we learned last year, Utah needs defense before than scoring at the 5 spot, although the need for offense from the center might be higher if Boozer doesn't come back. But in any case, Utah NEEDS some D at the 5, whoever their center(s) may be.]

None of these three plus Ed Davis is that convincing, says Locke. DL likes Avery Bradley among the wing players. [No more undersized combo guards, please.]

I tire of Locke. How does this guy even have a job? Seriously. I could do a better job if I were Helen Keller and scouting prospective NBA talent. The only thing that makes sense that Locke has reported on is trade #9 and Lenko for Brand and #2. Draft Cousins and let Jerry work his magic. If we do the whole Boozer and Udoh/Whiteside etc etc thing then we are setting ourselves up for another big disappointing playoffs. As far as Brand, he is a scary commodity but in some regards Boozer is as well if he has another Boozer type injury.

Pacers had Whiteside (8), Udoh (7) , Orton (21) and others yesterday in their workouts and posted a short video.

I know it's a very short video and doesn't tell much about each player, however, it was good to see Udoh and Whiteside play against each other.
I wish it was long enough to show Udoh's rebounding and shot-blocking, but he is definitely a good finisher.
Whiteside is very long and can definitely block tons of shots. Nothing new here...:)

Udoh has and still is my favorite. He showed rebounding, jump shot, passing and defense in that video. Orton impressed me a lot too. I say #1 if you can't trade up is draft Udoh #2 is trade down and try and get Sanders and orton if they fall

I love it, we get our second top 10 pick in 20 plus years and no player is good enough to be drafted according to the experts.

Usually, when you get one of the 10 best players out of college they have an impact on your team. This year will be no different.

Sweet find. Looked like Orton belonged as a role player-he rebounded and move into the right spots. Udoh played as a faceup player. Whiteside looked mostly out of place. He is a really long and a little thicker than I thought but you can tell he has played against inferior competition. He just look surprised by how quickly Caracter would make moves with the ball. Stephenson looked like a player. Who ever takes him the 2nd will probably get a very good scorer off the bench.

Watched Babbitt play against Utah State three times last year.

Completely awesome going to his left, but if they forced him to go right, he was very ordinary. Brady Jardine was smaller, but quicker and as long as he forced him to go right, he handled him fairly well. The other USU defenders got abused by him though.

Big thing I noticed is that he was unstoppable early in the game, but at the end when they needed a go to guy, he disappeared. Looked like he got tired by the five minutes of the game. Maybe if he were not expected to be the go to guy he wouldn't get so tired.

I think he has potential, but more of a big three than an undersized four. He wouldn't be my first choice.

Why the **** haven't we heard peep about player workouts? FO is sitting on their thumbs.

They've already promised Xavier Henry, unless one of the Top Five or Monroe falls to them. There should be some 2nd rounders/summer campers brought in soon.

That Orton interview above is why I think the NCAA declare deadline is a crock of ****. He knows he is not ready to play in the NBA and now NBA guys are telling him the same thing. Maybe the kid would've gone back to school had he been given time to get properly evaluated before having to make that decision.

I agree completely. The NCAA makes a mint off of these players and they can't even go for a job interview. Its horse ****. Would they tell some kid that left campus and took a summer job he couldn't come back? Its the same damn thing.
