What's new

Official Draft Thread

I agree completely. The NCAA makes a mint off of these players and they can't even go for a job interview. Its horse ****. Would they tell some kid that left campus and took a summer job he couldn't come back? Its the same damn thing.

Agreed. What's the harm in letting these kids get evaluated for a couple of weeks, then withdrawing if they discover they aren't 1st-round talent? I guess Stern thought it devalued the official pre-draft camp. But that's a joke anyways. No one takes part in the drills. All teams get out of it is offical size/weight measurements and a meet-and-greet with a few select players. Useless.

If the Jazz don't trade up into the top 5, I would take Monroe. If Monroe is gone (which is probably likely), I would take a serious look at Paul George. He could turn into a Danny Granger type of player- who could fit in nicely at the 3. He has shown flashes of being a very good defender, he has great range, and he has excellent size and athleticism.

Aldrich, Davis, and Whiteside scare me and 2 out of those 3 could easily be busts or borderline contributors.

Sunday workout: Aminu, Babbitt, Honzward, Henry, James, and Ryan Thompson.

Mmmm...wings.

Pacers Workout Highlights, June 1

Here in this video, you see Hassan Whiteside block Lance Stephenson and Derrick Character, both rather easily. He makes Udoh pass out of the lane on one play. In another play, you see Udoh have to adjust to Whiteside, and although Udoh scores, Whiteside makes him hold the ball and shoot at a tough angle. Whiteside also hits a fade-away 18' jumper over Udoh with a soft stroke that makes him look like he has real outside shooting potential. On a couple other plays, Udoh passes off rather than go at Whiteside one on one.

Whiteside is moving easily, much better than Orton or even some of the smaller players, and he makes players react to him. He looks much taller and longer than Udoh. He's not as raw as you think. He gained 15 pounds last year, and could gain another 10 pounds this year. He clearly has an upside potential of at least Andre Blatche as a face-up big and possibly even Rasheed Wallace if he works hard.

He needs to get stronger in his lower body and core so he can explode better for rebounds and post moves, but he clearly has real potential and isn't that far off. There's no question he can score over players with his length and just needs a couple of go-to moves.

He'll never have the offensive firepower of Rasheed. Rasheed had the talent to be a top three player in league for a long time.

Okay, makes sense. I would take Whiteside over Udoh though. I see Udoh being a workman PF like Carl Landry, not that that's bad, but I'm just not seeing much upside.

I think Ed Davis should be in the discussion too. A couple mock drafts have the Jazz taking him. I'd like to see him come in to work out against other bigs like Whiteside and Udoh.

There are a number of videos there. The June 1 workout for bigs is in the 2nd row of the other clips you can select.

I think I'm really warming up to the idea of trading down to #16, selecting Orton who has true NBA PF/C size and is pretty polished considering his age and lack of playing time due to injuries, and from everything I read is a complete class act and pro in demeanor. His obvious red flag is injury history but the kid seems like the type of guy we could use. He is only 6'8.75" without shoes but that's taller than Boozer and his wingspan and standing reach are both greater than Favors and Monroe's. In the trade we could pick up Minny's other 1st rounder as well and at #23 could get the BPA like Pondexter or Seraphin just to name a couple. I doubt Minny would do it but who knows. Maybe they try to package #4 and #9 to move up and get Favors or Turner. Seems win-win.

Also, how the hell is Jeff Foote not projected to be drafted? We need to bring his *** in for a workout.

KEK- I agree with ya on this one. I really like Orton and maybe we could get lucky and get a Paul george if he slips if we decide to trade down. However, I really like Udoh but if he isn't there my #1 option is trade down. Then with the second 1st rounder you get a Paul George if he falls, Pondexter, seraphin, Larry Sanders or Alabi.

I had to watch the video twice because I was watching #21 thinking he was Whiteside. I couldn't understand why he was getting so much hype. Now that i watched the real Whiteaide (#8) he does look like he could be a player. That #21 dude has no game. I pitty the fools who drafts him.

#21 is Orton
