What's new

official farewell to Benji, Rhonda, and Trey Burke

I'm going to take a shot at this, just for ****s and giggles. I'm guessing Trey asked for a trade and did it quietly to avoid a Kanter type blowback. I'm also going to guess that Utah found few takers, but did find a team willing to trade a 2nd for him. I'll also guess it was a situation that Trey and his parents considered to be as bad or worse than backing up Neto. Since it wasn't much of a return for the Jazz and an undesirable move for Trey, they came to a mutual agreement to wait until the off-season and try again.

Just a wild guess.;)

^probably spot teh **** on. Benji didn't like the returns... got sobered up real fast, eh Benj?

I like Trey. He does not deserve any unkindness from Jazzfanz

Totally agree with this sentiment. I've seen many other Jazz players over the years handle benching/playing time issues so much worse than Trey. He obviously doesn't fit what QS wants, but he's certainly one Jazz player I wish nothing but the best for down the line.

The whole Trey saga is very disappointing considering that the Jazz traded up to get him. I realize it was the old regime before QS and DL but now the most we can probably ask back is a Big Gulp at 7-11.

Solid backup, eh? That's not the tune you've been whistlin' throughout the season. Guess reality is finally settin' in. And to think, some people actually thought Exum getting injured was a good thing because we'd be better with Treyd anyway. Welp.

Trey was given a raw deal this season. He was stellar as the starter in preseason yet was forced to come off the bench for Neto who was playing poorly to began the season. He was playing great even off the bench when he had help with Burks. Burks went down and he was asked to do to much and his number dipped after that. Then the Mack trade which give Burke inconsistent minutes and his number really dropped off.

Not sure why Snyder handled Burke that way, but this season the situation Snyder created hurt Burke more than Trey just not playing well. The previous two season Burke play is what got him demoted.

Either way between Snyder system, and the team make up Burke doesn't fit with this Jazz team. I think there are a handful of teams Burke can start with and a few more he can be an impact player off the bench for. We'll just have to see how this plays out which is what makes sports so great.

Snyder has very little to do with Burke sucking at playing basketball. If they don't find the right fit, he might be in Europe.

Trey will land on his feet with another NBA team. I was hoping he could become our Kemba Walker but it didn't work out, he was always a good teammate and never caused any locker room drama, I wish him the best.
All I know is, somewhere down the road when the Jazz face Trey, he will hit a game winning shot against us. Mark my words...

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Trey 100% created this by himself. He received more than enough opportunities. Quin handled the situation as he should, by giving minutes to the players that had a winning impact. Trey did not, as evidenced by lineup +/- numbers.

I think it's much more likely that he plays a few more years in the NBA and then heads to Europe.

I was as excited as anyone when we traded up to get Trey, but we have to be honest. His combination of size and athleticism doesn't translate well to the NBA. If he changed his mindset a bit he could be a role player somewhere, but I think in the back of his mind he's a soon to be All-Star.

Popovich is know for saying that they only consider players who have "gotten over themselves." I don't think Trey has reached that point yet.

Did you follow the team in preseason? Burke was killing it(as he did the previous pre season ) so how was the benching of him justify to start the season if indeed it was solely just Burke's play? Burks and Burke was one of the best scoring bench duo until Burks went down. Burke was a high efficiency scorer as asked by the coaching staff.

I agree that Trey has to be a pure point to make it in this league and some of his decision making has been questionable especially since his rookie season. There's reason to believe Trey has been encouraged by Snyder and his staff to assume that role. I need to send Burke with another team before I any final decisions about where I think his career goes.

I totally agree with you. Burke clearly worked very hard and took the demotion like a true pro. Hopefully his understanding of the game with grow to a level which enables him to remain in the league for a few more years. I wouldn't bet on it, though.
