It just literally doesn't play into the excitement factor one way or another. A tie is an actual result, not just the failure of either team to win.
i can see that as a basic soccer fan without a rooting interest in either team.

however if im a ghana fan then i would rather win than tie..... and if im a germany fan then i would also rather win than tie.

So it seems like the excitement would go up for a germany or ghana fan if thier team would have won.

For example..... yesterday in the usa game i was much happier when usa was up 2-1 with 1 minute to go than i was when it was 2-2 and the game was over.
Thats an example of a win being more exiting than a tie

I'm just looking at 'exciting' in a different context.

For example, people often point to the possibility of "a draw" as a reason as to why soccer is boring.

I'm sure you would agree that Portugal scoring on the last possession of the game didn't make the game less boring than a 2-1 victory. Hence, my (and UGLI's) disagreement with people slamming soccer as boring, or 'dumb', because of draws.

i see what you are saying here and you are correct..... that goal didnt make it less exciting.... just made usa fans less happy i guess.

back to my original post however.

i went to the first game of the season for real salt lake and it ended in a 1-1 tie and was not a very exciting game overall.

so should i have felt happy or sad about the game/result? What emotion should a game like that make me feel?

i kinda felt like i should have got my money back tbh

They should make 2 and 3 pointers for goals depending on the distance away from the goal.

That's my suggestion, what do y'all think???

Does Germany have any incentive to rest players for this game?

Well if we beat them then we get the higher seed. And in that situation, if somehow Ghana could make up the goal differential Germany would be out of the tournament completely. So they won't rest players, but I doubt either team goes in full attack mode.

Well no **** bro. Of course you want your team to win instead of tie. 3 points better than 1 points tbh.

I thought we were talking about ties in general.

My excitement level for results in USA games goes like this...

USA win > USA tie > USA loss > USA players die on the field

Depends on how good Real was and who they played. Back then, getting a point might have been à good result for them even at home. Now, you would likely not be happy with a tie at home if you are an RSL fan, but would be pretty happy with a tie on the road.

My worry is that Portugal goes all out knowing that they not only need to win, but they need to make up a huge goal differential. This leaves them vulnerable to Ghana's counter attack and Ghana wins 3-1. This would basically mean USA would need to tie Germany to advance.

lol. Lets make regular goal 2 pts, penalty shots worth 1 point and shots from behind 30 yards 3 points. How about headers worth 4 pts and belly shots 6 pts. That way USA woulda won 9-6 vs Portugal lol.

i actually like this idea alot.... especially making penalty kicks worth less than other goals.

Holy **** soccer is ****ing boring. But I LOVE the fans! They make this sport even remotely worth watching. I love the ego-fueled nationalism and pure passion. Competition at its finest. But soccer ****ing blows.

Not really. Both routes to the finals aren't very nice. It's either France in the quarters and Brazil, Columbia, Chile, 2nd in the group With italy, costa rica in the semis
or it is Belgium in the eights finals, argentina in the quarters and netherlands in the semi finals.

So I guess our main goal is to solidify the defense to at least tie the game(in which scenario we would win the group) and the secondary aspect will be controlling the ball(65%+ possession), and then we'll try to run some fast breaks(No clue what the english football term is for that) or make deep passes out of our ball possession based offense.
