Holy **** soccer is ****ing boring. But I LOVE the fans! They make this sport even remotely worth watching. I love the ego-fueled nationalism and pure passion. Competition at its finest. But soccer ****ing blows.

I can watch the world cup as the national pride thing that you mentioned adds an edge for me that MLS does not have. But man oh man would I love to go to a World Cup game. It would be nuts.

My fav part of world cup so far..... was just watching the uruguay vs italy game on break at work and saw a uruguay player bite an italian dude on the shoulder.
The uruguay guy (the biter) flops to the ground holding his teeth and looking to the ref for a call IN HIS FAVOR AFTER HE JUST BIT A GUY.

Then the italian dude pulls his shirt down to display his bite marks to the ref who is like "IDGAF"

No call.

Instant classic

Not going to lie, soccer games are fun. I like the rowdy atmosphere and the heavy drinking. I would go to WC in a second, for those reasons.

Sounds like Suarez could still get a game suspension for it though, which would be the kiss of death for Uruguay.

didnt know you were a follower/watcher of soccer

What a marvelous, wonderful way in which the Italy-Uruguay game played out.

1. Italy lost, which brings me oh-so-much joy. Not only did they as a country invent just about all the things that turn people off football(mind-numbing negative tactics, playing for a draw, diving, barracking the referee, exaggerating the extent of injuries, racist Ultras, etcetera), but their supporters are by far the most smug, self-satisfied twats I have ever encountered. Any loss for Italy is a triumph for football.

2. They lost in controversial fashion, since you might argue that the Marchisio red was overly harsh. The fact that Italians will be extra butt-hurt about that makes it even more wonderful.

3. Luis Suarez bit Chiellini, who's the epitome of why I hate Italian football. Only in Italy do you get praised as one of the world's greatest players for your abilities to hoof the ball aimlessly away from your box and tug on people's shirts.

4. Suarez' reputation is going to take a dive and it will likely sour Real and Barca on him, which means that he will likely stay at Liverpool, which makes me happy as a Reds fan.

Alot of eastern teams (and some presumed favorites) are dropping like flies. Russia, Spain, Greece, Croatia, England, Italy and probably Portugal are all out of round 2. While Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and probably Ecuador and America are in. Rise of the West?

This isn't a rebuttal of your main argument, but I would like to point out that Russia and Greece are not out just yet.

And Ecuador and America are not in, yet. But man this has to be disappointing for the east overall.

Well, Uruguay advanced, Suarez is being suspended for 5+ games and then they drop out against Columbia in the eights finals.

So you think Olympic fans are awesome? Ok. Do you have a traumatic head injury? I have a ****ty barret you can where to hide it.

I thought the crowd in Russia at Ice Hockey games was pretty intense.

Wow.... Ivory Coast gets Hosed by the ref.....

I'm pretty upset!!!!!!

Well to be honest they can only blame themselves. To lose to such a ****ty team like Greece....That's what happens when you play for a tie.

Except he tripped over the dudes foot, the dude didn't trip him!!
