Official Jazz workouts thread

Archie was killing it earlier in the season. With his shot falling he's unstoppable (no hyperbole). With his shot falling he looked, easily, like the #1 player in this draft. He was really that good. Then his shot stopped falling and he looked like a project.

His shot is a line drive.. no arc, at all. Fixable? I don't know. If he does... though... he could be the best player. Lots of if's and but's with players in this draft, lol.

Goodwin needs to get his legs under him and jump straight up with balance. In the workout vids you can see he's doing it and getting consistency. I'm just saying that his ability to get a step on a defender and get into the lane is a huge boon for a team. This is precisely the skill that elite SGs like Kobe and DWade bring to the table.

At this stage, Goodwin is supposed to be a guy who is flanked by floor spacers, rather than be a floor spacer himself. He's clearly a slasher.

Yes. When Harrow was MIA and we had no PG.. Archie ran point. We were WAY better than when Harrow came back and Archie slid over to SG. Why? Because Archie got to the rim, every time... doubled? tripled? nothing stopped him. He's a bit like Wall in that he needs to bring the ball up, scan the floor, and he sees an opening and it's like he's shot out of a cannon... all in just a couple seconds. It was clear that defenses HATED him brining the ball up. He was totally unrattled by full-court pressure.. he attacked and sped by with ease.

Better decision making and a slightly better shot and he's top 5. If not, he's undrafted.

^Incidentally... Calipari has said he made a mistake pulling Archie from the PG spot when Harrow came back.. Cal said Archie was unstoppable .. something the rabid fans knew.. and a rare blemish on Cal's record at UK.

John Wall and Derek Rose were both 33% shooters from 3pt range as freshmen. I'm not saying Archie is at their level, but at #21 I can't think of a better pick.

Goodwin + Hayward + Kanter + Favors would be a 4some that really complements each other. If we could somehow add McCollum to that mix, that would be incredible. You could put Burks at the PG spot too.

Archie against Louisville (national champs)... you can see the possibilities.

Thanks. Awkward (in a good way) to hear you say anything positive about something I like. It's nice..

Heh.

I got soft-spots for selfless individuals who work-hard, and show compassion towards others-- particularly towards those who are most deserving of it.

MKG fits the script, at an astonishingly-young age.

More Archie Goodwin fun facts:

- 1 inch taller than John Wall
- Same wing span and half an inch greater standing reach
- Same no-step vertical; 3 inches less max vertical
- Slightly faster lane agility
- Slightly slower 3/4 court sprint

Goodwin breaks his man down or runs a pick-and-roll with Favors. Kanter is open out on the floor for a short jumper or a catch that lets him slide into the post. Hayward spreads the floor and can shoot or shot-fake and drive. Burks does the same on the opposite side of the court.

This is how you get things done.

The problem with the Jazz is that they rarely if ever have a player who can take his defender off the dribble. Hence, standing around and dumping the ball into the post.
