ฺBut wouldn't you think we'll have to compete with the Lakers, the Knicks and even Minny to get him?

Messina's our guy.

- repeat of post in Messina thread -

Two things off the top of my head, when put together lend credence to the Messina rumors.

1 - DL said they will take their time to make the right hire, and not rush things.

2 - Messina and the Euro teams are still playing.

Just a thought.

So are 16 NBA teams including the one Boylen coaches for. Unless a college coach or announcer really knocks Dennis' socks off, I think he'll take his time and interview some current NBA assistants.

Don't underestimate out ability to get a great coach. Finding players in free agency is hard for the Jazz.

With finding a coach we have leverage. All coaches know they will be given plenty of years to make it work. 4 years plus most likely. Jazz don't like firing people. So coaches will love that.
Lakers and the Knicks are both huge messes to deal with. Overpaid players eating up the cap space while no great young talent. Minny is a great option but there is so much uncertainty with Love.
Any coach with a half a brain knows the Jazz roster is like a kid in a candy store. They all know we have great young talent that just needs the right systems and structure to make it work. Along with cap space and more draft picks.
The Jazz have one of the best options for a coach right now.

Still don't like the guy and just because he's a good assistant coach doesn't automatically make him a great coach.

Didn't people say Corbin was a great assistant coach?

Sometimes people get promoted too much. Just because you were a great assistant doesn't mean you'll be a great or even good head coach.

I feel spoiled, and I'm getting to the point where I'm damn near praying for Messina-or-bust.

How friggin cool would that be! Man. Been day-dreaming non-stop ever since I first heard this dude'a name.

I'm reposting from franklin's Messina thread..

OK, here some more from Messina..

This link goes to Messina's official blog on sports.ru. There are some great articles of him, every article has English translations so no need for google translate.

Here are some of them I found interesting and very good reads.

About defense and offense.. Offense or defense? No need to choose one

About new rosters and teams.. Starting from scratch

About NBA.. Some remarks on NBA basketball

About basics of Defense.. Some defensive basics

After beating Minnesota and losing against Spurs by two points.. Getting back to “European” roles

About his experience with LA, short but very interesting and you can understand what his role was in LA.. The new beginning

About Kobe.. The hero you can’t avoid talking about

There are many more but they are older and related to CSKA and other stuff etc...

And this is from Euroleague official page, a Q&A interview with fans.. Ettore Messina, CSKA Moscow

From Messina:

Coach Messina, do you think about going back to the NBA? If you could, who would you like to have from Euroleague player on your team?
Miroslav, Lithuania

"Who knows? Maybe it might happen. It is something that I don't have control of, because it depends on people who might be willing to offer you a position there. Should I go back, for sure I would have a lot of names that I would like to bring with me. Again, as I answered before, it would be unfair just to say one name with respect to the many great players that we have in the Euroleague."

Interesting that @ESPNSteinLine wrote Utah may go after Ettore Messina. One source told me Jazz "will be the team that hires a Euro coach."

I love this Euro tradition that the Jazz have.

Some years ago the Jazz, Spurs and Raptors were the few teams that aimed at international/euro players.

Lately teams like T'Wolves, Hawks, Bucks, Cleveland are following this trend.

Anyway, it's time to see an international coach in the Nba! I thought it would have been Obradovic with Pistons last year....that said, I would be more than glad to see Messina as our coach!

Almost every team has had Euro players. Spurs have certainly been successful, though. I think the reason the Jazz went that way is due to the "you go play in Utah" mentality of many free agents. Utah isn't exactly LA or NY in terms of appeal to young, ok I'll say it, urban-oriented U.S. denizens. I think one of the reasons Deron soured on the Jazz is that he couldn't convince FA's to sign with Utah, despite having said he would try. Good intentions the first few years, then reality got to him. Another reason is coaching style. Sloan was old school. He demanded players respect him and do what he wanted. I think Euros have more respect for authority and for their coaches than Americans do. Not saying it applies to all, just a larger majority.

Utah Jazz coach odds per @BovadaLV: Boylen 2/1; Messina 4/1; Longabardi, Greer, Jones and J Van Gundy 11/2; Hollins 6/1; S Van Gundy 15/2

Please let us get one of these drama queen Van Gundy brothers. We'll never run out of material here at the JazzFanz.

Way to slink outta there. Makes Dwight Howard sort of look like a standup guy.
