What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

Yeah, but if there really is friction and a team in the West offered them an unprotected 2016 pick for him, I think they'd at least consider it. Jazz should at least inquire about it. 2014, 2015 and 2017 picks should all be deal breakers. They need rock solid assets, and the 2016 pick looks to be right around the rebound period if they get an All star player out of this draft as well as landing said coach.

True... I would definitely do GSW unprotected pick for Thib... he is THAT good.

Can you trade draft picks for coaches???

This is how the Clippers "traded" for Doc Rivers... I suspect we could do the same thing for Thib if Chicago decided to play ball:

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have allowed Doc Rivers to pursue a coaching opportunity with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Celtics will receive a future first round pick from the Clippers in exchange for allowing Rivers to depart.

Hmm interesting, but to do this then the FO of the Bulls couldn't fire TT. I'm not sure where his contract stands though...

Obviously the Jazz and Thib have to come to some sort of understanding beforehand so that when Thib forego his last year of the contract, the Jazz signs him up to like a 4 year contract, or something similar.

It's a win-win-win situation. The Jazz gets the coach they want. CHI gets the draft pick. Thib gets to coach a young up and coming team with the security of a long term contract.

This is a strange philosophy btw.

So what we should have done is just be like "corbin sucks really bad but there is a chance that the jazz could find someone even worse, so lets just stick with him"

Wanting corbin gone was the right thing for jazz fans to do. If the jazz hire boylen and he turns out to be a bad coach then we should want him gone too.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side basically equates to: No matter how much something sucks, never make a change because things could always be worse.

I dont live that way

So then don't complain when you don't get what you want. It isn't a way of life. It is just what might happen. I didn't say that you shouldn't want change if the coach sucks but don't complain if the new one sucks. Then you are just a complainer. I don't live that way.

So sometimes you wish for change and nothing changes or it gets worse.

So the solution is to not want change when in a crappy situation?

I see.
So there is a one time complaining rule for coaches sucking. If we have a coach thay sucks and we complain about it then we have used up our one time complaint limit.
Now if another coach who sucks comes along in the future we are unable to complain about them.
I was unaware of this rule. Thanks for clearing that up.

Sorry but i will always want change if my current situation sucks.

I am with Fish. If we get another crappy coach, I will keep complaining until we get a good one. You don't just live with your team getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs or not making the playoffs every year. You go out and get better.

Good, he's not one of the coaches I wanted.

Also takes NY off the board as a possibility for HC candidates. Sure wish someone could step in and hire Boylen before Lindsey makes that mistake.

We're not going to see any updates from the Jazz for a little while. Are Lindsey and Zanik even back? And they won't interview current assistants until teams get eliminated from the playoffs.

Contrary to another report, multiple sources indicate that Karl would love the opportunity to coach the Wolves and he's hoping his phone rings soon. 1500 ESPN

No, but Mark Jackson might be available.

<core4 ducking for cover>

LOL.. if you hadn't ducked, I would have thrown something. Pastor my ***, he's probably one of the most hateful guy I've ever seen. What he did to his assistants is disgraceful.

If Karl is considering the Wolves, I have no doubt he'd consider joining the Jazz. He's had nothing but good things to say about the franchise for years and is well aware of Salt Lake, since he received his cancer treatments here. Karl may have his warts (he's a pretty average playoff coach historically), but there's no question he knows his stuff.

I'd be very pleased with his hire. Thing is, I doubt the Jazz are looking in his direction. He's definitely more than just a retread - he's a retread's retread - and it seems Utah is more shopping for a younger coach, or someone who hasn't been tainted by a bad head coaching record over the years.

I think they're looking for a coach who can be here for the next 10-15 years if he is semi-decent. I don't think Karl would last that long.
