Official Offseason Rumors Thread

How being the finals MVP while the jazz are in a lottery season isn't a huge deal to me, especially since it got us rodney hood.
Yup. We helped them out, but it doesn't really affect us near term. We're not contending. Meanwhile we were able to add Hood and pick up a couple of additional assets.

If we could get Jeff Teague at a decent cost, he makes a lot of sense for us.

What would Atlanta realistically command for him in a trade?

It's tough to give up much if he's just a one-year rental. If you extend him long-term, that throws a wrench in Dante's development.

I don't get this argument. If you get someone like Teague on a long term contract for a fair price, then if Dante blows up, you just trade him. It doesn't mess up Dante's development at all.

This thread should be stickied.

Also, check this out (from Hoops Hype: https://hoopshype.com/team/utah-jazz/)

Spencer Checketts: Dennis Lindsey says the Jazz were approached by a team offering a “good” veteran player on a “solid” contract in exchange for Trey Lyles. Jazz passed. 17 hours ago – via Twitter 1280Spence

This is interesting. Hope this means Lyles gets more playing time!

It doesn't at all. May actually help him to have a one or two year buffer.

And it's almost shocking how often this argument (and others which are similar) are put forward on this website.

Teague still makes sense, but DL needs to drop his offer down. With Teague, Utah likely would have made the playoffs. Now they'd have him for 1/2 season less. I'd offer no more than Burke and the worst of the 2017 1sts.

I think Fournier is the guy. He's friends with Rudy, he's long, and he can shoot. If we throw money at anyone this offseason, I feel like hes the guy. Locke talked about Cody Zeller this morning and pointed out that hes an elite pick and pop guy in the pnr. Pairing him with Rodney might be a nice pairing when rudy is off the court. Just some thoughts.

I just hate Cody zellers face so much... I'd rather not have him.

The only way we get Fournier is a max offer... Magic would match it and figure other things out later because they know they can dump the contract. So we'd have to get him on board and then negotiate a sign and trade... So he'd cost some assets and dollars... At that point it's just a bit much for my taste.

Nearly positive you heard Locke wrong. Zeller is a terrible midrange shooter so I doubt he is elite on the pop. It was probably rolling to the basket.

He does have an extremely punchable face though.

This is all I see now when I read Cody zeller.

And Locke did talk him up yesterday, I thought he even said the Jazz had interest or perhaps had pursued him in the past.

Haha... I don't get Cody Zeller honestly. Other than having an elite punchable face he isn't good at any other thing.

Besides rebounding and scoring around the basket, the two basic tenets of being a good big man. Would be a major upgrade over Booker.

He also goes to the FT line at a pretty good rate and actually makes his FT's.

He is also a very mobile big who can hedge, switch and cover a lot of ground in help defense. I like Zeller as a guy in your big man rotation but I doubt his price will make sense in a 1. Favors 2. Gobert 3. Lyles 4. Zeller rotation.

I once suggested a Kanter for Zeller trade. IIRC, every JFCer thought that wasn't enough.
