Alex Kennedy:NBA projects 2016-17 cap is $92 million, with luxury tax threshold of $111 million. Salary floor (minimum team must spend) is $82.8 million.

Forget the draft, this is what the off-season is all about.

Jazz have to add 25.8 million in salary just to reach the minimum salary. They can spend 35 million and still be under the cap. There are 10 teams with more cap space avaialb ethan the Jazz.

We will use $10m or so of that to extend favors. And I expect us to offer a free agent a two year $30M deal with second year unguaranteed. Will be a one year overpay for someone.

Or we trade for a guy like Rudy Gay that has a short contract.

Basically pretty meh.

Rudy gay added to this team would be lots better than meh.

Barring any other trades, the jazz would be deep. Hood and Burks would come off the bench with lyles and mack. That's a damn good bench unit. If our number 12 pick is good, we could move way up in the playoff seeding.
 
I'd be ok with Gay. I'd still go after Teague, but with his injury I wonder if Teague would be a bad fit chemistry wise with the upcoming contract.

Imagine the jazz drafting poeltl at 12 the second unit would be mack, burks, hood, lyles, poeltl.

With withy, ingles, neto and hopefully a second rounder as injury scub minute players.

That's probably true regarding gay... I think the hate has gone too far on him. I also don't think they'd trade him for nothing... Would likely be giving up some draft asset or burks to get him.

The other moves are pretty meh though... Prolly nothing too exciting.

Wow. That makes me hard. That second unit would have a solid point guard leader, a dynamic slashing scorer that can also shoot a good percentage from three, another versatile scorer with potential to be an elite three point shooter, a floor spreading big who can all put it on the floor and attack the basket, and a good center down low with size and a post up game.

Defensively it's not great at all but they should be able to score a lot of points and be very entertaining in the process.
 
I don't know where to post this and I don't think it deserves its own thread, so here it goes:

Canada just announced its roster for the preliminary tryouts and Lyles is not on the team:

They are missing pretty much all of their big names - no Olynyk, no Wiggins, no Stauskas, no Thompson... their biggest name is Cory Joseph. Besides Lyles' absence, the biggest repercussion for the Jazz is that the chance that France will qualify just went up, thus we can probably expect Rudy in Rio, unfortunately.

Lyles needs to be at P3. I'm okay with him not being in Rio. Rudy needs to get healthy, but France was going to qualify anyways. I hope the Jazz are a little more bullish on keeping their players home in the offseason after what happened to Dante last year.
