What's new

***Official Ping Pong Day Thread - Tuesday - May 20th - 8 PM ET - ESPN***

Not to mention that if Embodied is healthy he's the best prospect in the draft.. or at least arguably the best.

Yup. It's kinda like taking Olajuwon before Jordan-- to this day, you still can't say that the Rockets made a bad pick in any sense. At least, IMO.

I'd be ecstatic with Embiid if I knew he wouldn't be plagued with injury problems*

Tifwiw.. but teams don't seem to think he's got a back problem that is chronic.

^ in that case, there's a pretty big chance that Embiid goes 1st.

Texas has 3 teams.

If you look at the population of the San Antonio Austin area you will see that it is comparable(slightly larger than) to the Wasatch front. Sure they might have some bleed over from other parts of the state but that's a two way street.(probably some rockets fans in Austin).

right on --

the wasatch front MSA (ogden to provo) in 2010 was 2.2 million

the greater san antonio MSA population in 2012 was 2.23 million

According to Chad Ford's magical lotto projector, the Jazz's big board currently looks like this---

Parker
Wiggins
Embiid
Exum
Vonleh
Smart
Randle

The most likely picks are Vonleh (at 5 or 6), Parker (at 1, 2 or possibly 3), or Embiid (at 3 or 4). If Embiid is off the board at 4, the Jazz would take Exum. I have not seen a scenario where the Jazz take Wiggins because virtually every other team would take him first. The only scenario I've seen where the Jazz take Randle is if they fall all the way to 7.

NBA lottery is fixed. Here is why teams (not going to spoil it) are going to get the 1-3 picks.
All I can say is there have been some pretty interesting, "coincidental" outcomes over the past several years.

This article is satire. Every team gets the #1 pick in his commentary, as every team has a reason to justify it.

That said, the fact that the Bucks were just sold and that the Lakers would gain leverage in the Kevin Love sweeps with a top pick looks suspicious to me.

let's say it's true, what's your point?

I don't believe it is, but if it were, that would mean the Lakers would get a top-3 pick guaranteed. Just bad business not to have a premier team in Los Angeles. And with the nasty Sterling business, that team will disband before the legal challenges are settled and Sterling is finally forced out. Milwaukee can't fall too far: have to reward the new owners for overpaying for that franchise. Philly has to be punished for tanking. So move one other team ahead of them: Celtic/Laker rivalry was good in the past. Let's create a new one.

1. Lakers (Wiggins): The heir-apparent to Kobe
2. Bucks (Embiid): To replace Sanders, whose career is up in smoke.
3. Boston (Parker): Thomas S. gives 2 thumbs up. Immediately starts scheduling firesides with Ainge & Parker.
4. Philly: A gift here. Silver wanted to punish them for tanking, but Milwaukee had to stay in the lottery. So they get Exum.
5. Orlando: Interesting dilemma: PG or PF. Jameer is getting old. Tobias Harris is good, but not great. They'll go with Smart.
6. Utah: Vonleh or Randle.

Lakers pull off a trade during the off-season to get Love, without giving up Wiggins. Step 1 involves re-signing Fisher. Two days later, without announcing his retirement, he is hired as coach of the Knicks. Lakers do a S&T with Gasol and send him to Minnesota along with Fisher and their #1 picks in 2015, 2017 and 2019 for K. Love.
