What's new

***Official Ping Pong Day Thread - Tuesday - May 20th - 8 PM ET - ESPN***

IF Embiid's ceiling is Hakeem, then he is top 20 all time. And in this NBA, where there isn't Malone, Barkley, Shaq, etc and the "best" big out there is....Howard?...Embiid would dominate (if he is Hakeem). He would be Jordan level domination.

I agree that bigs are irrelevant in the league today, but I'd argue that it's because there aren't any Hall of Fame level bigs in the NBA today.

So, you put Hakeem in today's NBA...unstoppable.
I agree.

But how likely is it that he ever makes it to his ceiling?

Eh. That's why I take Wiggins #1 after strongly, strongly, strongly considering Parker.

It's not even a debate. If we win tonight then whoever is representing the Jazz should just announce to the world that we are drafting Wiggins.

For you in SLC area driving home during the lottery.....

700 am will play the espn feed live.
1280 am will talk about the espn feed and interview Dennis Lindsey as soon as it is over.

1280 has an internet feed, I'm not sure about 700.

Sirius XM?

Very anxious. Let's hope this past seasons poor play is worth it with a great pick in the lotto.

I just ran the ESPN lottery and my results were painfully obvious. The basketball Gods do not what the Jazz to get Wiggins. I ran it 30 times and not once did the Jazz get Wiggins. Two times they got the first pick and they took Parker. I wouldn't be that upset but if I were the GM I would pick Wiggins over Parker. Both have their pluses but the Jazz need a SF and I have my doubts Parker can play/guard the three.

1- with 6th pick - Smart
2 - with 3rd & 4th- Embiid
6- with 1st(2), 2nd (2) and 3rd(2) picks - Parker
21 - with 5th pick (18), 6th (3) - Vonleh

So I am going to reconcile the possibility that the Jazz most likely will get the 5th pick and they will choose Noah Vonleh. I have become a bigger fan of his after I've study him a little more and after the combine measurements. However, this creates a log jam at the PF position. Jazz still need a SF.

Draft order has already been decided in the backroom. PKM, get on the phone to your sources and tell us what happened.

Everyone think positive thoughts....the team reps have been sequestered and actual lottery drawing is about to happen.

Greg Miller likely to be texted by his brother, right?
Maybe something gets leaked on twitter for a few seconds before being deleted.

Last good thoughts I'll make in this thread until very late tonight/tomorrow morning. I'm going radio silence after this bros, hoepfully the Jazz will have a top 3 pick later.

No, Lindsey is behind the scenes guy, and all the guys locked in the room watching the ping pong balls had to give up their phones and devices.

Watch how many fingers he holds up as he waves to Bryan and Randy. Full-handed wave, we dropped a spot. Thumb tucked in, stayed at four. If he gives the boy scout salute, Jazz jumped up to three; military salute equals two. Wide-mouthed, $%#@-eating grin means #1. It's as simple as dat. ;)

Just kidding. I've never watched the first part, so I'd imagine team officials get to sit sequestered and monitor the process, then talk amongst themselves, while their counterparts wait in a different room for the opening of the envelopes - with no communication between them?

So when the announce it do they do countdown from 14 to 1? or just top 3? i have to prepare myself for what kind of suspense i'm in for.

It's a 14 to 1 countdown. You'll see some real excitement if/when teams are "missed" - then they know they've gotten a top-3 pick, but not which one until those picks are revealed.
