Official Player Workouts for the Utah Jazz

Not a single lottery pick worked out yet. Just a bunch of late second rounders or worse.

DL was on the road after the combine. He's seen a few, I believe.
He only has to decide between 3 players if the pick remains at #5. There's more evaluation to be done for the #23 and #35 picks, and any players they may want to invite to camp. I believe the Jazz are also in charge of stocking the Stampede roster. Perhaps that's why they're bringing in a lot of players that will likely not get drafted.

Just read that Adreian Payne will work out next week.

That is the 1st interesting workout yet. Payne and Early are my top picks for number #23 or even if we had to trade both #23 and #35 to move up a little to get one of them. I suspect both will be gone in the late teens though.

They start from the bottom and work their way up to stack-rank everyone. Then they can bring in a guy for a 2nd workout with other players if he impresses. That's their way of being thorough.

Obviously, there are 30 teams looking at players and the Jazz and agents have to coordinate accordingly. By bringing in lesser players now, Jazz get out of the early post-combine crush for the 1st-rounders and can schedule them later. Could it be Utah also wants to wait as long as possible so they might have a coach in place for some of the workouts?

i wonder whats up with Semaj Christon falling to 63 on DX's prospect list... if the Jazz could land him as an UDFA that'd be a huge win, 6'3" and athletic PG, hes got broad shoulders and a great 1st step, not the best shooter (though he shot 39% on 1.4attempts from 3 this year) hes best when getting to the rack/ finishing/ drawing fouls, the appeal is defensively though hes got the size and plays tough.

also he had a disaster game in the Tournament, really bad, like 6 turnovers in the 1st half iirc. I wonder if his fall is related to that, it seems like his slide was recent in DX's mocks

any ideas as to why all the other teams have scheduled workouts with the lottery prospects, except Utah? trying to be fashionably late i guess.

Orlando scheduled a second workout with Marcus Smart... hopefully they take him at 4 and giftwrap Exum for us.

Well, Perrin said they weren't going to be able to get any of the top-3 to come to Utah and they were hoping to get the rest in for workouts. Also mentioned it was difficult to schedule workouts for guys projected in the 12-20 range as agents limit their players to 8-10 sessions and no back-to-backs. I imagine they've seen most at other workouts and have a pretty good idea of what their draft board looks like already.

I wonder if the jazz want to see how exhausted they players are and then how well they perform.

Yeah, seems sort of bizzare that none of Vonleh, Smart, Randle or Gordon have been in for workouts, or that we haven't even heard about future workouts scheduled with them.

Agreed

Conspiracy:

The Jazz know they aren't picking at 5. They are either planning on moving up, or trading the pick.

Nobody wants to be the first guy to settle for Utah.

When are the Jazz going to bring in the top 5-15 guys or are they attending the LA workout? It seems pretty weird not to have any of the big names in yet considering they have a top #5 pick.
