OFFICIAL: Please list your favorite cap-space-rental trades

They will, but as DL keeps reminding us. Don't skip steps.

May not be ready to compete next year, but still building.

These extra assets Chicago has accumulated over the years by trade-raping various mismanaged franchises is a big reason, why they're where they're at and why they have so much options going forward.
It's not about Using the first round picks you get in such a transaction, it's about adding them to trades, and using what's left of them.

So your brilliant idea is two more picks?!?!?! Are we destined to do this every year. Our core is in place let's build a god damn team. We need some vets. You don't build a contender on young players alone! Do you think we are going to keep all of these guys for the next ten + years? We need solid vets to take away the sting of the good talent we will lose to sustain the core talent that will be here for the long haul.

Just stop.

You clearly have no understanding of what is going on here.

Take a few minutes and run some scenarios in your head going 4-8 years out. Think about how all the contracts will come into play in the future.

If we go and fill up our cap by signing free agents then we will most likely screw this all up. We will end up being forced to move guys we didn't want to. There isn't even any free agents really worth going after that would fit the team. There is maybe 2 or 3 guys and they probably aren't even interested. You don't spend money just to spend it.

This is a lot like chess. You have to think more than just one move ahead.

We have one more year of this to maximize the potential of this rebuild. Renting our cap space for one more year is the smartest thing you could do. It's a win win win.....win. This team still isn't close to contending. There is still a lot of growth that needs to take place. Once we get past this year and we start handing out even more contracts that affect our cap space for years to come, then we won't even have the opportunity to do this kind of asset accumulation.

Be patient. If we try to move to fast then we become a team like Brooklyn and the Knicks. Taking the time to do it right is the smartest thing to do.

Dumbass!

Seriously, why are you always calling people dumb, when you post just as much dumb ****?

Totally THIS

The only guy I'd consider is Deng, and he's prolly not interested even if we overpay. There's probably other veterans out there that have locker room daddy potential, but I don't know them. And other guys that produce stat lines are really guys that defer.

My calculation has about $19mm in cap absorbing room for 72 hours. If they match Hayward they better use that **** before losing about 8 of it.

What about Shawn Marion? He wouldn't command a large dollar value at all nor a lot of minutes, thus allowing for more lineup flexibility, specifically as it pertains to getting Hood and maybe even Novak playing time.

Pride is an interesting thing. It can be good or bad. I'm not sure that Marion's would allow him to sign to what is likely a cellar-dweller AND play mentor. But the idea that he might and that it might work out is certainly a little tantalizing.

Agreed. And on one hand, I think we should make an offer to Marion at something like 1 year, 7M or 2 years, 11M, overpaying for him yes but not hurting us maybe at all. The flip side though tells me, what's the point? Why have the guy for a year or two to be back with nothing at the SF spot again (unless of course we get one in the draft next year)? Why not just match Hayward? Matching Hayward will not in any way hurt us from re-signing both Burks and Kanter. It will not hurt our ability to further down the line keep Gobert, Burke or Exum either.

What's the purpose of wasting cap space on Marion?

Gary Neal, Gerald Henderson, 2016 & 2018 1st as a contingency dump plan in the event Suns don't match a max offer sheet given to Eric Bledsoe.

Oh wait, DL spent it all.

This was before we knew we'd match Hayward. I basically felt he is a vet (which we could've used) who can be had on the cheap (good) on a short-term deal (very good) and start at the 3 (which we would have needed), and can do a little bit of everything including 3 and d, though not nearly to the extent that he formerly could.
