Official: Raja Bell/Jazz reach buyout agreement

I don't know that the move is important enought o celebrate, but it is certainly the right move.

Raja Bell said:
We typically play it pretty close to the vest. [Agent] Herb [Rudoy] and I are pretty private," Bell said. "But, in essence, [I’m] pretty much a free agent. I don’t think the I’s are dotted and the T’s are crossed. But we’ve been given the greenlight by Utah to go ahead and find something that works for us. We’ve agreed to the terms. So I think it’s safe to say now we are in the market again and we’re entertaining our options at this point.

Yeah, pretty private. Just like the Kardashians, Lohans, and all other attention whores.

Again if it is sourced right now that multiple teams wanted him then it shouldn't have been hard to move in for a lesser asset. Or find some three way to hop in on!
It's sourced from his agent. Very reliable and accurate source.
Translation: perhaps a team will take him for the vet minimum...if he gets waived. If not, there's not a snowball's chance in Utah we'll pay $3M+ for the bum.

Buy out? Not so fast.

Chris Tomasson
Raja Bell's agent, Herb Rudoy, said Bell could leave Utah either with a buyout or with a trade to a team that has cap room to absorb his salary ($3.4 million). "I have been given permission to seek a trade (for Bell) or to reach a buyout,’’ Rudoy said. “(Jazz GM) Kevin O’Connor has given me that permission. There will be plenty of teams interested.’’ It's not likely a team would trade for Bell's $3.4M so a buyout is much more likely. Then Bell could be signed for the minimum of $1.35 million

Awesome. He should not be bought out or amnestied a day before he has to. Make him sweat, see what's out there, and you may negotiate the buyout down when it's all said and done.

Peter Vecsey: Could've sworn Kevin O'Connor stated at season's end the Jazz don't buy out contracts. So what should we call Raja Bell's paid departure?

Brian T. Smith: Jazz General Manager Kevin O'Connor declined comment when asked about Raja Bell's buyout.

i doubt anyone will clamoring to give up an asset in exchange for a guy they could just sign to a veteran minimum contract in a week.
