Official UofU homer thread

Not going to disagree, but it's probably better than any other system that could be made.
No it's not. Until it's an 8 team playoff it will always be ****ed up. When they go to 8 teams the polls will become virtually irrelevant and that can only be good for college football. The only people the polls will matter to then is the losers of their conference and G5 teams.

The Big XII is about to get raided again. 4 playoff spots means that there is only room for 4 power conferences. Oklahoma will be lookin to bail after the season, ala A&M. The Longhorns will follow suit and the BIG XII will be devoured.

The point is they started over rated and that hasn't changed. Utah started under rated and that hasn't changed. If the polls started now Utah would be higher ranked than a lot of the teams ahead of them on merit alone. The only reason they are not is because of the bias of the poll voters in the pre season and now.

OK, so if the NCAA started off with a complete clean slate every year, what do they go off of? It would make fair ranking much more difficult.

You have to use the previous year's record, especially the end of the year, to rank the start of the year. In most cases it's a fairly accurate ranking, save for teams that lose a lot of seniors and/or key players to the draft. So Utah was under ranked to start, it's not like they will have no opportunity to show they are worth a top spot. There is literally nothing to cry about yet you are finding something to cry about.

I'm sure you think the current one is just an elaborate scheme to overrate the SEC though.
No I don't. They are over rated but it's not a scheme it's the bias of east coast coaches and media that can't or won't stay up to watch west coast football. Because they don't see they under rate it. That the SEC doesn't often lose out of conference early in the season because they won't play anybody contributes to their being over rated. As the SEC continues to lose playoff games and bowl games it will eventually fall where it belongs now that a poll doesn't determine the winner. Also the media and the coaches no longer choose the champion it is done by a committee that did an excellent job last year. The media would have put 2 ****in SEC teams in that playoff and the dumb *** coaches might have put 3.

Irrelevant? There will still be an argument and people will cry when they are ranked 9th.

There is no reason to rank teams before they play. But even if they did those pre season ranking should have no bearing on the next weeks ranking.
.
Who the **** is whining you pansy *** little bitch. We were having a conversation, But apparently that was too much for the oversensitive SEC stick up your butt.

Because your part of the discussion makes no sense. PAC-12 has such an inferiority complex. Just because a Utah team beat a #13 team they deserved to be top 5? I guess you are really desperate for the only time to be ranked in the top 5.

Cy we should be ranked higher this week based on our resume. Next week we have a by so some team should overtake us. If they have proved more than they have than they have earned it. I don't see that as being dropped. I see that as being reasonable.

Cy, stop trying to bug everyone.

My opinion: pre season polls are stupid because nobody has any idea about teams at that point, but sort of necessary for hype and making games fun to watch (it's fun to watch ranked teams, even if you know rankings don't mean much early season).

Knowing this, I think voters just need to be a lot less rigid with their rankings from week to week. They've been a lot less rigid the last few years, but they need to be even more so. Each week they should entirely re rank teams on how they feel about them, not just follow the unwritten rule of sliding a team slightly up or down each week unless they lose.

Yes, you should be ranked higher than what you were previously ranked. Anywhere from 10-13 seems likely and reasonable to me. Anything higher seems unlikely, anything above 8 seems unreasonable. Top 5 is ridiculous.

Nobody has any idea? Really? These teams aren't largely made up of the same players and coaches from previous years? Of course it's not perfect, but to say "nobody has any idea" is ridiculous. I know it's hard to be objective when your team is playing well and you want to get hyped, but I'm just being realistic and reasonable. No way in hell Utah should be ranked in the top 5.

I haven't said anything trolley or inflammatory about this subject and have only been reasonable given what the current system acts like. Utah fans want to create their own polling formula? Go for it.

You're either joking or been asleep the last decade of you really think early season polls are accurate.

Just about every major college football voice has said that early season rankings are stupid, but somewhat necessary.

This is the reason they don't do any playoff rankings until mid season.

I'm not saying any of this because of Utah and have no problem with where we are ranked right now.

I also would rather have pre season rankings than not have them, just think some of the "old guard" voters need to stop being so rigid with their voting.

Never said they were accurate, just said they aren't completely inaccurate.

If you didnt have them, people would still act like they existed. A week 1 win over Oregon would still be more impressive than a week 1 win over Oregon State. Know what I'm saying?
