Official UofU homer thread

Jesus that felt like escaping. I hate when Utah goes Ultra Conservative like that. They didn't try or do **** the entire 2nd half. Lucky to come out of there with a win.

Ugly win, but a win.

People can criticize Utah for winning ugly all they want. TCU and MSU won ugly today too, only difference is they weren't playing a ranked team.

The conservative play calling down the stretch nearly cost us the game. Wilson also wasn't very good tonight. Escaped with a win. I'll take it.

That Cal D seems legit. I'm no expert, but they are a good unit.

Wilson didn't play a good game by any stretch but IMO it was more the play calling and I still think the O-Line is not very good which feeds into the conservative and ultra conservative play calling.

PLAY ACTION PASS and PASSING ON FIRST DOWN occasionally only tried that a few times and it worked the majority of the time.

And I agree the Utes did not play like a #1 or #2 ranked team not even close, their schedule luckily has been good enough but strictly going off how the team overall played tonight, no they did not play or play call like it.

The biggest concern about this game, IMO, is that Cal turned the ball over SIX TIMES, and we won, at home, by less than a touchdown/PAT.

A W is a W, but we were one play away from being 4-1.

Honestly, to come away with a win against a team that has such a great passing attack is awesome. At the end of the day a W is a W. Our D did as well as you could expect. Nerves kept us from putting the stomp on, and Goff almost single-handedly beat us. Feel lucky, but be happy!

Thy passed on second and third down on last two plays??
I'm happy for the win, but that should quell any chatter of Utah deserving to be ranked #1.
Why?? Goff is considered by most to be the best qb in the country. Cal is very good, and the def made a ton of plays. Ohio-st. Is #1 and every win they have had have been super ugly. A win is a win. Holding Cal to 24 points is actually pretty good.

Lol. Statistically speaking Cal is one of the worst defensive of teams in the nation lol

I thought the O line was good?? Simple fact is that teams aren't afraid of Utahs passing game so teams are going to stack the box. Also Utah needs to slow down tempo of the game and hold onto the ball keeping it away from Goff. If Utah throws on first down a ton, sad truth is they will have a ton of 3 and outs and Cal ends up scoring a ton of points. Utes have Wilson and Booker... Who do u think the u should lean on?? I have 0 issues with play calling

Utah did turn it over 3 times and cal has a great offense. I'm not worried at all about how the game ended. Great teams make plays when it matters most and Utah did that tonight

There seems to be a lot of undue pessimism going on here.

Contrary to what is apparently the popular belief here, even top teams don't typically win every game in blowout fashion. Go down the list of all the top teams over the past several years and you can criticize the overwhelming majority of them for exactly the same thing. It doesn't make them "not" a top team.

If narrowly winning against an undefeated ranked opponent means the Utes are frauds, then every team is a fraud.

Ugly AF, but a win is a win. TCU almost guarenteed a move in the polls. Not sure the top 5 changes.

If it had been reversed and Utah was driving to end the game and pulled out a win by making a touchdown on that drive...? That's not any better than being up by six and stopping the other team's drive, is it? New to football.

Just saying, any criticism of the Utes for playing a close game is pretty weak since they lead the majority of the game and shut Cal down on a game winning drive. Isn't it the Ute D that is considered so good? Well, they played one hell of a game and beat Cal. If there was a question about Utah's D being able to do that it was answered. Ute D can beat an elite QB.

Bring on next week.

True, but how many turnovers did we have? 3? 4? Chalk this up as an escape and an overall bad game for Wilson and move on. The main thing at the end of the day is that we won.

Good post

Tonight's win will look better and better as the season goes on imo.

I think cal gonna win allot of games

I feel that the ute d-line was the mvp of the game. Pressure all night long.
I was impressed that the cal qb was able to stay in the game and keep throwing completions (and picks lol) in the face of all that pressure.
