It's a BIG game. I'm already sick to my stomach about USC coming into the game on a 2 game losing streak. I don't care what chaos they've had, losing 3 in a row with all of that talent is damn near impossible. I hate to be a downer, but I think this is where Utah gets their first "L" of the season.

That being said, Utah's defense is ridiculous. It might be the best all around D I've seen from Whittingham, and that's saying something. Mark my words, that secondary is deep, legit, and full of multiple NFL'ers. The front 7 has been getting most the love, but I've never been as impressed with a Utah secondary.

Hope I'm wrong about the USC game. If Utah gets out of there with a win, I feel like playoff talk becomes an actual reality.

Honestly I feel like Cal and ASU were more dangerous games for us. I'm more confident that Utah will be focused and ready for this game than I was before the last 2. I'm pretty optimistic about this game. It's going to take more than talent to beat this Utah team.

This.

The secondary has been the weakest part of the defense for years. That may still be true, but I don't consider them weak this season. Cal and ASU are explosive teams, offensively, and our secondary has been up to the task. USC has a lot of individual talent, but they don't seem particularly cohesive, the importance of which cannot be overstated. I figure the last couple of weeks, and all the drama, will either galvanize them, or break their will. Either way, if Utah's defense is ready, this game is ours to win.

We are in the driver's seat in the south. If we keep winning (I believe we are past the real meat of the schedule), we have total control. Doesn't matter what anyone else does.

Man, I predicted 11-1 this year. I still think we get 11-1. That being said, this team is better than even I thought.

If you'd told me we have injuries to the #1 QB, WR, TE, DE, LB, CB, S and still be 6-0...I'd not believe you. Heck, we had to move our #3 QB to safety because of injuries.

What a fun year. Enjoy it. We may never have a season like this for the rest of lives. It looks like the Rose Bowl might be our floor.

Crazy.

Like Whitt said, "6 down and 6 to go."

Exactly. Stanford is the scariest (probable) game standing between Utah and the playoff. I think Utah will get it done in the south and we are in store for one hell of a Pac 12 championship game.

Had a friend tell me that he felt the season was already a success. He said, "worst case scenario, we beat the **** out of BYU in Vegas. What's not to love about that?"

Lol.

USC has so much talent. But they are very, very young and very, very soft. If they hire a Harbaugh, watch out. They'll win a couple NC's the next three years.

That being said, that won't help them this weekend. They are like Goff. Hit 'em a couple times and they'll fold and go home.

I picked us to lose this game, but I think this game could get ugly...for SC. I'm not sure they are mentally tough enough.

I think SC comes in after ESPN, Vegas and everybody else picks them to upset us thinking they will destroy us. We hit them a couple times, then they go down and go down hard. If Kessler has a couple early TO's, it could go downhill fast for them. Wouldn't surprise me if that team quits on their coaches.

Especially with some high up USC donors telling me Uncle Pete contacted the school about coming back.

Those kids hear that and they'd rather be coached by Carroll than anyone else.

I think that's the great thing about a great team that hangs its hat on its defense. Defense isn't come and go. If you've got it and you take pride in it it'll be there each and every game.

Cal couldn't overcome the defense. ASU tried side stepping it by getting their points off special teams, but ended up having to try to get there though Utah's defense, and they couldn't. A team like USC, that only has talent but a system in disarray, they will not know how to overcome the defense. They just won't.

Amen.

As much love as Utah has seen from the national media, I still think our D is underrated.

Our defense has never been complete. We missed Domo for a couple games before he was 100% (closer to 4 games). We didn't have Dimick for Oregon. We were playing our third string QB at safety vs ASU plus Norris was hurt.

Imagine if everyone was healthy.

Same for offense. We still haven't had Patrick, who was our best returning WR. We just lost Fakailiotonga. McCormick was hurt in the fall. Travis is #15 in the country and #2 in the PAC-12 in QBR. Imagine how much higher it would be had he played against Fresno.

As good as we've been, we haven't peaked yet. That's scary.

BTW, any word on Norris? Last I heard was "hopeful" whatever that means. Whittingham isn't anywhere near Norris' level.
