Official UofU homer thread

Hey guys, at least byu looked like ****

Sorry about the loss last night. That's a tough one

Booker was nowhere his usual self, you could just tell the injury was effecting his play. The linebackers were unusually quiet for the game.

As bad as the defense looked, gotta give credit to Solomon and Arizona, they had us off balance throughout much of the game.

Biggest disappointment the 0 points scored on offense in the 4th quarter. There is no excuse for that against one of the worst defenses in the conference.

Travis Wilson didn't lose the game but I agree with most I'll be glad when he's gone.

When you Ute fans speak of hope, I can't imagine you're thinking playoffs. Because let me speak plainly. Utah has zero chance. Literally.

I don't think any ute fans think that they have a chance at the playoffs anymore.

I don't really think the pac12 has much of a chance of having a team in the playoffs

This is not new information. I'm not sure who you think still believes there's a chance.

Things would have to get pretty bizarre at this point for the PAC to get anybody in.

Hope does not necessarily mean playoffs. In my opinion, the fact that the Utes could still get to the Rose Bowl is a significant thing. That would still be a pretty big deal. They need a little help, but there is still something worth playing for.

Go Oregon. And failing that, go UCLA in a couple of weeks.

Sucks to need help to win the South, but... hey. At least there's a chance.

I'm stil beyond angry at what I saw Saturday night, but here's my attempt to look at the glass half full:

-With Oregon and UCLA looming, I think USC has 1 loss left in them.

-Utah matches up with UCLA light years better than they do with Rich Rod and Zona. Seriously, dude has Whitt's number and it's quite embarrassing.

-Utah can win out. Regardless of what USC does, Utah can finish 10-2 overall, while going 7-2 in conference. If you would have told me that at the beginning of the year, I woulda taken that and ran!

I have a serious hunch that if Utah can take care of business in their last 2 games, they're playing in the PAC 12 title game for a chance at the Roses. Added bonus: A PAC 12 title birth allows 1 extra game for Travis Wilson to give us all an anger stroke.

Good posts.
You guys have the right attitude/perspective

Didn't know you had ties to the playoff committee, if the Utes win the Pac 12 championship than they literally still have a chance with the Pac 12 easily being the deepest conference in the country....that said I don't think we're going either, but to say literally no chance is retarded.

I'm hoping you're right.

At Oregon is no gimme. As bad as Oregon looked for much of the season, they have been playing much better ball lately. Autzen is a tough place to win, especially when Adams is healthy. And USC didn't exactly set the field on fire in Boulder. They may be running out of HeltdrenalinTM.

When (yeah, that's right) Utah beats UCLA, and they subsequently drop out of contention, they should be extra motivated to beat USC, to salvage some pride.

What's going to happen is USC and UCLA both win this weekend, play for the Pac South next weekend, USC beats Stanford in the Pac title game. Then USC goes to the playoffs just purely based on the playoff committee's awe for the greatest college football program of all time.

we only dropped to 13 in the playoff poll, as crazy as it sounds utah is not completely out of it. but it still very unlikely.

wonder if utah will rest booker, i think that may be the way to go since williams and poole look capable.

It's gonna be crazy next year when Utah takes the field vs BYU without Travis Wilson and Devonte Booker in the backfield....

See... I get why people say this, but I don't buy it.

Every year we freak out about losing this person or that person, and we end up having new and wonderful talent come forward and make a name for themselves.

We've got depth the likes of which has never been seen in the State of Utah - ever. I'm not saying they won't be missed, but I really think that the "next man up" philosophy will really become a thing over the next few years.

Take this year, for example. Our defense is great - it's solid. We've got a great line and very solid linebackers. People aren't pining for Star Lotulelei, or Nate Orchard, or any number of other players, because new blood has stepped up.

We've got some GREAT QB depth - QB's that are seemingly "made" for the spread option offense. We've also got some solid RB's in the pipeline.

I'm becoming less and less worried. We're getting to where we don't need to rebuild - we just reload.

On another note, the Runnin' Utes, I was pleasantly surprised by how they played against San Diego St, I liked the getting the ball up the court quicker and quicker ball movement that I've seen so far. A little worried about the depth at center but I was also surprised that #15 Lorenzo Bonam, only one game though but overall I'm liking what I'm seeing this early in the season.

I can't realistically expect Loverdige or Kuzma to keep draining 3's like they did in that game in every game but still, I can see them improving a good deal throughout the season and being really good, not sure if they'll win the PAC12 but they should be right there at the end to contend for it I think.

Well, crap.

Devontae Booker had minor meniscus surgery today. He's out until the bowl game.
Rotten timing.

Next man up...

Go Joe Williams, Go!

I should be more clear. I wasn't fretting over the fact that they'll be gone (I won't be missing Travis Wilson). I'm just stating that it will be odd to see a Utah backfield without those 2. Even if I don't love Travis, he's started more games than any QB in Utah history.

I do disagree with your post in regards to QB depth. If we had QB depth, Travis wouldn't be our starting QB. QB's in the roster that will be here next year are Cox and Manning (forget about Chase Hansen. Dude is a Safety or LB the rest of his career here). Manning is not a spread QB, who's looked really bad in limited playing time and absolutely stunk up the spring game. Cox has never been able to challenge Wilson/Thompson/ or Chase Hansen for playing time and none of those guys are average passers. At least Cox is built for the spread but I'm still concerned about him being our starter.

Imo, our best bet are incoming recruits Troy Williams and Tyler Huntley. When your best 2 prospects for QB next year aren't even on the team yet, you are indeed rebuilding as opposed to reloading.
