Official UofU homer thread

It's sad that Travis is the first 4 year starter at the U and he's complete trash, he can't even throw the simplest of passes, the quick slant...

Any chance Utah and Miss State could play each other in a bowl game? Miss St ranked 21 and Utah ranked 23.

I can't imagine Utah loses to Colorado, and I think Miss St will beat Ole Miss. So we will probably be ranked somewhere in the 15-20 range and Utah will be around 20. Possibility?

The PAC-12 has affiliations with bowls that pit us against:
1. MWC or BYU (Vegas Bowl)
2. ACC/Notre Dame (Sun Bowl)
3. Big 10 (Foster Farms)
4. Big 10 (Holiday)
5. Big 10 (Rose)
6. Big 12 (Alamo)
7. Big 12 (Cactus)

The SEC has bowls with matchups against the ACC/Notre Dame, Big 10, Big 12, and AAC.

So basically, the only way the PAC-12 and SEC play each other in a bowl game are as a result of one of the Championship Semis, the Championship game, one of those other conferences not getting enough teams to qualify for bowls leaving at-large bids, or two at-large bids on a NY6 or some other bowl without enough qualifying teams from its conference affiliations.

Plus, Utah would have to have a really bad record (6-6ish) to be low enough in the bowl selection criteria to be at-large available.

So in other words, that's not happening this year. No way.

What are the chances we get matched up with BYU? I could see it happening just because of economics, but I'm not sure how BYU's bowl commitments are structured. Unfortunately this year is ending on such a down note for the Utes that whatever bowl match-up we have will probably feel like a bit of a disappointment.

Good post.
If the utes got matched up with some random average team would ute fans care much?
If they got matched up with byu would they care more about the bowl?

I think that if I were a ute fan I would be excited about a bowl game either way but much more excited about a bowl game against byu. Utes have pwned byu and another pwning would get the bad taste out of their mouths that has been put there by the recent losses.

On the flip side it would really suck to end the year with a loss to the cougars

I'm sure Vegas would love this match up. The Utes would have little to gain and a lot to lose (in terms of reputation, not money). I think the Cougs would take it in a heartbeat. I could definitely see it happening and I'll bet the hype would be enormous for their first ever neutral site game.

I want no part of a bowl game with BYU. It's a much better scenario for the Utes to get into a bowl game vs a Big 10 or Big 12 school. Sure, the state of Utah would be all a flutter leading up to that game, but I'm really not interested in 3 weeks of nastiness and rhetoric spewing from both fan bases. I can't even handle 1 week of it. Hell, I'm gonna be in a bad enough mood all offseason considering that we have to open with them next year.

I'm sure BYU and its fan base would jump at the chance to shun the Hawaii bowl in favor of playing Utah in Vegas, but there's really no incentive for Utah to feel the same.

I feel the same, but I could definitely see it happening. It wouldn't surprise me a bit. The money will likely be much bigger than any other option, and money talks.

I agree with your first paragraph

I disagree with your second.

I hate the rivalry. (Even hated it in the long ago when byu was on top.)

Wazzou is not a program you get turned around and stay at. You turn them around and then get the **** out of Wazzou.

Wazzou was the first team to take a shot at hiring Leach after his issues at Tech....so it's possible he might have stronger loyalty to them than you would normally think. I'm pretty sure somebody is going to grab him this offseason though. There are too many good head coaching job openings and not a lot of good offensive minds to fill them.

While I absolutely believe what you're saying, I think my statement is generally true when looking big picture. The chairman of the Vegas Bowl was on 1280 this morning and when asked about a possible Utah-BYU match up, he said that they've had contact from BYU reps who have let it be known they'd like to see it happen. He also said that Utah hasn't really been in contact and he gets the vibe that they're not really interested in the possible match up.

Ya I think you are right about byu fans wanting to play utah in Vegas. Just not me

Be interesting with Joe Williams, fumbled 2 games in a row and now may be hurt, when he runs he looks good, very fast but if you can't hold on to the ball Whit will not play you.

Also crazy that last offensive series for the U, 1st down the D wasn't ready for the snap and the U offensive line still almost gave up a sack, 2nd down did give up a sack 3rd down another sack. Again gotta have the 3 worst O-Lines in the PAC12.

Also glad the U got the INT because of the touching of the QB's should as he slides that is apparently a horse collar tackle.

Just want to publically say **** you to Direct TV for not having the Pac 12 Network, I have the most expensive package along with NFL ticket but I can't watch the Utes or any of the Pac 12? GTFOH but don't worry my payment will be on time as usual, only thing keeping me with these douchebags is the NFL ticket....

I agree but also if you care check your PM.

So I finally won money on a utah bet.
I have bet on Utah like 5 times this year and they let me down every time.

So today I finally took their opponent. (Colorado)
Utes were favored by 16. Thanks for not letting me down for once utes!

Some people will say this was a successful season and to some point it was but a team that fired their coach is representing the south division. We had a pretty good opportunity that's not going to come every year and we choked it away, that hurts even if we end up in a decent bowl game. And our passing game is still one of the worst horror shows I've ever seen.

While I think this is a successful season I'm still disappointed. If you told me before the year they would be 9-3 and shared the south title I'd have been happy. But the way it played out is really disappointing.
.
I am really frustrated with the conservative offense BS. Can't blame the OC anymore after 8 different guys it's obvious that the offense runs the way Kyle wants it to.

I don't want to jump on Whitt, it was a couple months ago that we were all worried that he'd leave for a bigger school....Don't want to be one of those fans that's all about the coaching staff during wins and turn against them in losses. Travis is a 4 year starter, he has to be the one to shoulder losses for on field miscues.
But it's on the coaches for BS conservative play calling. They have done this for Whitt's entire tenure. He's just not aggressive offensively he has his offense play not to lose. He turns all of the athletes on the team into defenders and generally just doesn't give his offense a chance to be better than average.
