Official UofU homer thread

It means that your second statement does not logically follow from your first. You said you can't bring yourself to watch any baseball game, and then you said you think it would have been fun to be at the Ute championship.
I see. Ya, I should have specified that I can't watch televised baseball.
I like baseball live in person at the field.
Soccer too.

I think I would probably even like nascar and golf live too.

I know it won't stop, ever, but both fan bases need to stop going at each other for completely different reasons.

Utah fan, your program started distancing themselves from BYU in the latter part of the MWC years and that gap has only widened since then. Not trying to be a dick, but EVERY measurable metric you look at will bare that out. Move on.

BYU fan. As a team fighting to make it in independence, you've got way more things to concern yourself with than Utah. Not only that, until you can start out-recruiting your fellow instate school consistently, or *gasp* actually beat them in a head to head match up more than once every few years, maybe, just maybe that's not the fan base you want to be talking **** with.

Just sayin.

I think the problem is rooted in the fact that in our lifetime, this is the first time it's been like this. In other rivalries, the momentum swings back and forth a lot more often. We BYU fans don't know how to handle this.

This is a PARTIALLY fair statement. But only partially.

BYU dominated from 1972 - 1992, yes.

Things were fairly even for the next nine years.

And then over the next 13 years to the present, Utah has dominated. Thirteen years.

I think what you mean to say is that BYU fans are still trying to revel in the success of their youth - meaning, what happened 22 years ago.
But things were Even Steven for 9 years, and then Utah has dominated for the last 13. That's a long time to get used to being caught up to, and then to being dominated.

You're right, there are not as many major swings, but the two major swings have both been significant - BYU's dominance starting in 1972, and Utah's dominance starting in 2002. And this dominant swing has all the indicators of being something a little more permanent, due to the benefits of recruiting, facilities, money, exposure, etc. from a P5 affiliation while BYU is unfortunately still trying to break out from the admitted mistake of going independent.

I feel for you guys. This has got to be hard. I think many of you are handling it admirably. But you have to admit, a lot of people (on both sides) are NOT handling it well. Hence, the original post by jazzman12.

Utah won 70% of the games before LaVell. They've won 70% since lavell. Lavell was great. He's gone and BYU is returning to their norm. Lavell also hit Utah when they were at their lowest (how Utah is getting Colorado right now).

I find it funny how BYU fans blame Urban for all the hate. They say he escalated the BYU hate to a new level...but they never put any blame on "run up the score" LaVell. My point? The rivalry hate is because of BOTH side's coaches. Lavell was a douche to Utah. Urban returned the favor.

In some ways, Kyle is BYU's worst enemy. He doesn't lose to BYU (and he hasn't lost since he said he would never lose to BYU again) yet he doesn't run up the score either. So, Utah goes up 2-3 scores, goes super conservative, BYU give it their all, fights back and loses. So, they lose year after year, yet they feel like they have hope "next year". It's fantastic.

The defense let them down against BC and then they ran out of gas against Tulane. Good run though and really good season (accomplishment wise).

Huge improvement

Seems like the closing in the south end zone thing is not going to happen any time soon. This screen currently prevents any structure very much taller than the current one.

It's not the seating that needs upgrading it's what lies below(locker rooms, press area), getting a larger concourse, etc. I see them rebuilding the south end zone and closing off the bowl within 10 years at the latest.

I did some work with FFKR architects downtown. They had a 3-D model in their lobby (not sure if it's still there) of their south endzone proposal. I thought the seats in that addition went as high as the seats on the east and west sides, but based on the height of the video monitor I guess they've changed that. No big deal because end zone seats are the worst view in football.
