What's new

Official UofU homer thread

Utah gets a commitment from Armand Shyne. He's a JC kid that will play this fall.

Our RB depth is STACKED. Williams only averaged 133 yards per game in the PAC-12. McCormick beat out Williams before he was hurt. Moss is an absolute monster for an 18 year old.

And now Shyne. He may be the best of the bunch. With our OL, our run game will be fantastic. If our QB can not turn the ball over, we will win 10+ again.

The SL Trib article lists Shyne as a 2017 recruit that will come in and compete after Joe Williams graduates.

I'm 99% sure the Trib is wrong. He is a 2016 recruit, will be here this fall and is eligible to play right away. He has four years to play three seasons.

I did some work with FFKR architects downtown. They had a 3-D model in their lobby (not sure if it's still there) of their south endzone proposal. I thought the seats in that addition went as high as the seats on the east and west sides, but based on the height of the video monitor I guess they've changed that. No big deal because end zone seats are the worst view in football.

Yeah I've seen renderings. I think they decided against 60k seats though. They want to make sure that they don't ever have empty seats. I could see them going to 50k but not higher. For comparison Stanford fits 50k.

I like the sound of only expanding to 50k. Hell, the only reason I want to see them close the south end of the stadium is for the extra noise. If done correctly, that stadium could become deafening.

You know what, I never even thought about that. That's a really good point!

Kyle Kuzma listed at pick #47 on draft express 2017 mock draft

KUZ needs to improve his shooting but other than that he has a solid game. He could really benefit from NBA spacing. He seems to be the kind of player that could end up being a steal.

QB's: Williams is 100% healthy. Can't really test the QB's right now, they will battle come fall.

HB's: I don't remember anything said about them.

WR's: Still waiting on medical redshirt for Tim Patrick. Whitt expects him to be a force if we can get him eligible. Also, Whitt talked about Butler-Byrd's abilities at WR but he still needs to get healthy. He said Siaosi Wilson redshirted last year but he has gotten a lot bigger and should play and Smith has improved his body as well.

OL: We have a great problem in that we have too many good players. It was discussed how some starters from last year may be bumped to the bench this fall.

DL: Excited about our new recruits. They have the size and speed. We will be elite at DL for years to come.

LB: Taufa isn't eligible academically. Will redshirt and hopefully join the team in December. Davir Hamilton is a LB'er. Whitt said that Tauteoli has by far been the best LB'er and they are very pleased with how he is progressing. He expects Luafatasaga any day now and they expect big things from him. Whitt says they feel fine about the LB'ers.

S: Hansen is a safety. He is a big safety and only a sophomore. If he gets up to 230 lbs over the next couple of years he could move up to LB, but they expect him at safety this fall. Whitt said Hansen is 100% healthy and running/lifting with no pain.

About the expectations: Whitt says he is glad Utah is getting the respect they deserve and they should be mentioned as winning the south. We are good enough to win the PAC-12. Whitt said they aren't changing anything preparation wise and as nice as it is to have the respect for their program, at the end of the day all that matters is your record in December.

Get excited folks. We have a very, very good team. If Whitt is talking winning the south...we are good.

After listening to Whitt, we only have two questions:

QB and WR (mainly Tim Patrick). If Patrick is given eligibility and is healthy, our WR's will be fine and maybe better than they have ever been in the PAC-12. If Patrick is given eligibility and healthy, our only question will be:

QB - Can our QB be efficient and not turn the ball over? If the answer is yes, we will win 9+ games again. If our QB can have 250 yards passing, 2 TD's and 1 TO...we will win the PAC-12.

And Dick Harmon said Utah would never compete at a high level in the PAC-12:

Utah is the only FBS school with postseason wins in football, NCAA men's basketball and baseball and is one of just seven FBS schools that participated in each of those events. Utah is one of three FBS schools to make a football bowl game, the men's basketball NCAA Tournament and the NCAA Tournament for baseball and softball.

(The seven schools mentioned above: Arizona, Duke, Miami, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UConn, Utah. The three schools that also made softball: Utah, Arizona, Texas A&M.)

Them Utah teams are pretty good at sports. Maybe.

Delon and Jakob are gonna tear up summer league together. Cool both are playing together on a east contender.

Meh, I'm glad because it will fill in the gap of no basketball. Once November starts Football is basically over in my mind.
