fumble or no, as i understand it it is incomplete if his arm is going forward while the qb maintains possession. what say u?

Don't think it's as easy as some here think. It looks to me that he starts his forward motion just before the ball begins to slip out (very close either way). If they ruled it as incomplete on the field, I don't see conclusive evidence to overturn it.

The moment I saw the replay I knew it was too close to overturn. They need irrefutable evidence and the video does not meet that standard. If it had been called a fumble on the field that call would have stood as well.

Is it Broncster that's the Ducks fan? Why he isn't he in here this morning telling us how Utah doesn't belong in the Pac 12 because they bring down the curve for illustrious programs such as his beloved Oregon?

Ok, on to this week. I watched Cal in the opening game against Hawaii and I immediately felt like it was going to be a definite "W" for Utah. Now, I'm not so sure. Their defense is still epically awful but now I have doubts about whether or not Utah can hold them under 35 points. Utah should win the game, but it's definitely not going to be easy.

Let's find out. Broncster

It's a fumble.

The key is moving forward with possession.

If you watch it closely, you'll see his hand lose grip on the ball before his arm moves forward.

As far as Cal....

Same old story. I am scared to death.

If the ball had gone downward or backward upon contact you might have irrefutable proof of what you're saying. Since it went forward I think he had at least some control of it when he initiated the throwing motion.

Agree to disagree.

First off, congrats on the win and avoiding an embarrassing loss against USC. Second, those are two really rough losses for Oregon. I could go into more detail but Oregon is looking like a middle of the PAC 12 team this year, like Utah. As a top 5 program in college football this century this is one of the rare down years. Also i never said Utah doesn't belong, I said they would not have been my pick to get in and all they have proved is that they are a middle/average team in the PAC 12. I don't see that changing much this year. I hope for the PAC 12s sake that BYU doesn't get in a good conference since that will greatly effect Utah's recruiting advantage and they will suffer from it. They haven't beat a decent team yet this year and got very narrow wins that could have gone either way against two bad teams in BYU and USC. USC might get things going later this season but they are a mess right now. Maybe Utah really improves and get some confidence but if they lose a couple games it might fall apart for them as well. Good luck though. I'll be at the Oregon game against ya, hope we get on track and get our star running back back by then.

Lol this guy is still mad about the beat down we gave the ducks last year^

Hope you had fun riding that momentum for about 7 years of being an "it" team, cuz now you're back to just being who you are, Oregon.

Gonna be fun to see all the bandwagon Duck fans finding a new home. Wonder how long til Autzen stops selling out.

I think because the ball went forward it looked like an incomplete pass in real time to the refs.

The ball going forward isnt a real indication of incomplete/fumble, especially since he was hit from behind so the momentum of the hit probably carried the ball forward as much as his forward arm motion.

The key question to me is: Does he lose possession the moment the ball begins to slip from his hand? Or does he still have possession at the beginning of the slip? The forward motion seems to happen at the same time of the ball beginning to slip out. Since the hit doesn't directly dislodge the ball, the exact moment of loss of possession isnt clear and happens more gradually than most plays that happen in this manner.

Im not mad about losing to Utah, just embarrassed. That is still the most embarrassing loss in recent history for the Ducks, hopefully always will be.

Lol, this is why everyone makes fun of Utah/BYU fans. They are ignorant. Autzen stadium has been sold out for the season since 1998. How is Utah doing at selling at that below average stadium? They struggle to sell out games when they are winning. When Utah is losing they have no fans since they all switch to BYU or pretend they dont like college football. We have had 1 losing season since Belotti was the coach or athletic director. That is in 21 years. They have finished in the top 25 15 out of the last 22 years. Utah has only finished in the top 25 9 times in their history since 1892. They are top 5 in most wins of any program in the last 20 years. Utah already has 2 losing seasons out of 5. They have finished 5th in the south division 3/5 years. Utah will get some big wins now and then (every team does), they will get on some lucky streaks and have a decent season now and then, but last year was Utahs peak in the PAC-12 and the best they can hope for. At least you got to go to the Vegas Bowl and got a narrow win against your rival BYU. Sorry I know Utah fans get their feeling hurt easy and cant take some light hearted trash talking, but its too much fun. Good luck, ill post again closer to the game against ya'll, maybe it will give you motivation to keep watching this season.

*I don't really believe this just posting it because we all know people like this and maybe even think thoughts such as this*

It felt like every fumble/TO that favored Utah was reviewed any and every fumble that benefited USC was not.

Okay really though, I knew I wasn't able to look at that QB fumble unbiased so my opinion of a fumble is skewed but I do wonder if they called it a fumble on the field if they would have kept it a fumble. Because when they reviewed it the ref said the ruling on the field is "confirmed" but if it is the like the NFL they only use "confirmed" if they saw evidence to confirm the call, if was inconclusive they use "stands". Just a thought.

38 consecutive sellouts since 2010

Not 1998, but not bad. Nit a struggle to sell out either. And we have worse weather, so there is that.

You seem to like numbers. How do you feel about the fact that since the beginning of last year, Helfrich has lost more games than Chip Kelly did during his entire tenure at Oregon? How about the fact that the fair weather fans of Utah kept their consecutive sell out streak alive during 2 consecutive losing seasons (I thought they were supposed to be jumping ship to BYU)? It's obvious that Helfrich is killing that program. Sure, you guys will fire him, but good luck getting a marquee HC to come to Oregon in an offseason in which the likes of USC and LSU will be on the coaching hunt.

Considering how much Nike money your program is spoon fed, you should be better than EVERYBODY, and yet here you are trending down and trotting out 2 consecutive FCS Quarterbacks. It's gotta sting watching Oregon losing ground while Utah trends up. There's no reason in the world that this should be happening but it sure as hell is. Don't feel too bad though, you guys still have really neat uniforms.

So your main argument is that our old coach Chip Kelly is better than our new coach Helfrich? While I would agree Helfrich has finished 2nd, 9th and 19th in the end of season polls in his three season, won the division 2 years and came in 2nd the other, won a BCS Bowl, won the first college football playoff game against #3 Florida State and made it to the National Championship game. That is more than Utah has or ever will ever do.

Utah has the second smallest stadium and cheap tickets for sell in a metropolitan area of 1 million with no real competition game day for tickets. Its quite a bit bigger metro (SLC is 3x bigger) than Eugene who has a bigger stadium and more expensive tickets and way more rainy games. Also Utah "sells out" games recently but in bad weather that stadium is no where close to full unless its a big name or a BYU game.

In reality Utah is doing pretty well (although I dont think this season is going to be anything special) and I am glad to see the stadium being fixed up and hopefully expanded, it has one of the prettiest views from the stadium looking at both the mountains and the city below it.
