Dallas from WCF appearance to tanking to avoid the play in

San Antonio will leap Houston in the lottery standings in all probability if the Rockets don't lose their final game to the Wizards. That said, word is out that the Rockets are parting ways with Stephen Silas after the season. Is Silas going to play along and lose, or go out with a win? Some added intrigue.

I don't know how many times I've had to explain to One Love that Jazz games are a win/win - either I enjoy the win or we lose and it helps our draft pick - and he still doesn't get it.
Weren’t you the one insisting Ainge doesn’t plan to tank in the “Winning culture or Tank” thread?

You mean way back towards the beginning of the season when Tony Jones and Andy Larsen were both reporting that the Jazz FO wanted to see what they had for a couple months or so before choosing a course?

Possibly? But it's been obvious since the trade that they had chosen to tank, and I never denied that.

Yeah there were pages on that thread where you insisted we weren’t tanking.

Now you’re finally admitting we’re tanking.

Hence my comment above “Finally”.

So are we rooting from Washington to WIN their final game? we would tie them for 8th worst, right? provided we lose our last two.

Correct. If that happens, then a coin toss will break the tie in the lottery standings and the lottery odds would be divided equally between the two teams.

How do the odds work if we tie with a team? I see that right now Washington has a 26% chance of Top 4 while we have a 20% chance. If we tie, does that mean both teams end with the same odds? I understand that the coin flip would decide who picks first if neither moves up.

Yes, the odds are split evenly. Both teams would have 23% odds.

23.3% for each team

Are the Twolves lottery odds and pick dependant on where they finish after the regular season? Or after the play in results?

Draft order is determined by regular season record for everyone, including the teams that don't advance from the play-in. The play-in strictly determines who makes the playoffs (and the games basically only exist in some weird dimension/purgatory/void where they almost didn't occur).

If you had told me early in the season that the Mavericks would miss the play-in tourney entirely, I wouldn't have believed it.

I would have thought only with a major luka injury

Jazz weren't tanking for a while and slowly turned the tanking dial. They have only been full out tanking for the last few games or so

The Knicks losing a top-10 pick by 1 spot due to tanking is reminiscent of using losing one to the Warriors when they tanked for Harrison Barnes.
Coming back to this. I remember Golden State was trying at the trade deadline to get their pick back and even before the lottery there was discussions because Golden State wanted to get rid of the top-8 protections before the lottery happened. That sucked bad for us. No top-8 pick and we didn’t get anything extra either.
