Official Utah State Aggies Football 2012 Thread

I'm not bitter about him leaving, I just think he overdid the fanfare over the last couple of months, doing things like crying with the players after the bowl game telling them how glad he was to be at USU and how he wasn't leaving, putting out a press release stating that he " would be coaching in 2013, for sure", he could have merely stayed quiet, or said that no schools that had contacted him thus far were of any interest.

This sums it up. This is why I think the majority of the people are disappointed. I read a tweet from Matt Austin last night that basically said the same thing. "Gary told us he wasn't leaving"

I can understand the change of heart. Gary would have been nuts to not take the Wisc job. It just should have been handled in a better way.

I hope that this doesn't ruin the progress that has been made in the USU football program. It's sure be a nice ride the past few years. I hope that the next coach can continue on, and stay a little longer.

Maybe it truly was a bang bang thing. The job wasnt open when he origianlly said he was staying at USU. Could have been a real quick call, meeting and decision all within a day or two. I dont think he lied to anyone.

I don't really know much about Logan except driving past it on the way to Bear Lake. Just saying you can love a place and still leave.

It's possible Andersen had no intention of leaving but was surprised to get the offer from Wisconsin. Really hard to see how anybody could turn that down in his situation.

I agree with all of that. Sucks, but we'll survive, just like what Utah had to deal with when Urban left. Can't say I wouldn't have done the same if I was Gary, money talks.

My biggest concern is recruiting, and if players that were comitted to coming next year will now have a bad taste in the mouth about USU as a whole. Barnes needs to find an exciting, up and coming type coach (like GA was 4 years ago), and find him fast.

It will be interesting to see the names that pop up for possible interviews. Sounds like Anderson is taking most, if not all of his staff so it seems pretty certain at this point it will be an outside hire. With C. Keeton coming back, and the fact that this years squad only had 19 seniors, the foundation is certainly there to maintain some success.

Thats actually not possible at all. Everybody and their dog knew Gary was leaving.

The media is really the one to blame for this kind of nonsense. Everybody has to toe that line of only saying what is expected and is only what people want to hear. Otherwise the media will ruin your life if you tell the truth about anything.

If we ran his spiel about loving Logan, the team and the school through a truth machine, it would have sounded more like.... This school has been nice and we had a good run, but l cant win big here, and I can make more money somewhere else, along with furthering my career. In fact multiple schools are bidding for my services right now. Im just deciding on where I am going. If I stay here, I might not get this opportunity again, because we might not be that good again.

Gary leaving THIS YEAR was far from a sure thing.

I've read a few articles earlier today that said Wisconsin contacted Gary Sunday afternoon, interviewed Gary on Monday, so it was a pretty quick decision and did happen after all the interviews Gary had done recently stating he was staying at USU.
So your correct. Gary probably was telling the truth when he said he was staying.

I knew this day would happen. I had just hopped that it would have been a few years down the road.

Heard that Matt Wells interviewed today for the job. Also interested in Sitake and a coach from up in Washington, I'd have to find the article again now. I don't recall the name. Sounds like they want someone hired this week though.

I heard Wells went into the interview with a "potential staff" in place and a plan laid out of what he would do. I also heard Anderson is offering him the OC job at Wisconsin, but he wants to stay in Logan in the financials are close. All of this according to Scotty G. at 1280 (went to USU and seems to be pretty in tune with what's going on up there).

As an Aggie fan, I wouldn't mind Wells taking over. At least it would provide some sort of continuity from the last group of coaches. And hopefully the recruits would still stay on board.

On a different note, my brother told me he found a website somewhere (it was on the internet so it must be true, right?) that said Chuckie was going to transfer and redshirt. If Andersen takes Chuckie then he would be the biggest douche bag of all time. He is now at a school where he can easily go out and recruit another Chuckie. No reason to take ours. I truly hope that that was just some blogger blowing bs out of their butt.

Wells named new Aggie Head Coach....

I think this will be a good move. As was stated, he's familiar with the players, the school and should make the transition for the players much easier. He has been involved with recruiting.
The big plus, he's been Chuckies coach for the past two years. I would bet this played into the choice as well.

It will be interesting to see whom he picks to be his assistants now.

That was quick. Probably very smart to stop the bleeding/whining/defections ASAP if they were going to stay in house anyway.

If Chuckie is transferring, he's doing his best Gary Anderson impression:

@ustate16 Badgernation would open our arms to you Chuckie!!

@PDCBiRd sorry but the #AggieNation has already closed theirs around me
