Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

cute win against a decent HS team from Colorado, little brother.

Big Brother kicked your conference's *** tonight.

Oh, and people actually saw it on TV... On a fairly known channel, ever heard of ESPN?

I think the biggest concern for the Utes right now (other than Wynn's health. he might break a shoulder if anyone sneezes on him or pats him on the body too hard...) has gotta be the TV deal.

Fans probably aren't too miffed at missing this snooze against some school I've never even heard of. I mean, seriously, could they beat Snow College? Could this school even beat Alta, East, Jordan, or Timpview HS???

But give this a few more weeks and I have a feeling a lot of folks are going to be losing their minds if this deal isn't made.

Other than the INT where Dres Anderson had 2-3yrds on his man and Wynn under threw him so bad that not only did he have to stop but come back for the ball Wynn played as well as I could've expected IMO.
The FG kicker is the biggest stinker of the night and a big big worry going into the season. Next biggest disappointment IMO was DeVonte Christopher I hope it was just a bad game but I expected more from the SR. WR.

Jake Murphy with 2x TD's (6 catches overall) had the best game IMO or maybe he just surprised me either way was nice to see the U using the TE's.

Defense wasn't flashy and no one thing or player really stood out to me but the D did what they should've done and anytime you can keep the other team from crossing the 50yrd line for the entire game that has to feel good to them.

Good win for the utes but i dont think anyone can take any positives or negatives from this game.
After this game i still have no idea how good the utes are, but i think that they have a good defense and i still really like john white alot.
I still think wynn sucks and if i were a ute fan i would hope he gets injured or benched because travis wilson looks pretty damn good.
The utes have very good recievers, but i think the o-line will struggle against better opponents. The kicking game looked pretty scary.

How was Travis Wilson being used? 7 rushes/2 passes....? Were those normal QB reps?

Before the bench was emptied, they brought Wilson in for four short yardage plays, all of them rushes, two for TD's and one nice play where he hurdled a defender. His passes were in the 4th to sustain drives. Like much of the team, it's hard to get a read on him based on the game last night.

Nevertheless, I thought he looked good (at least from my seats). I was very pleasantly surprised.
And if you don't feel good about Jake Murphy after last night's game, what the **** is the matter with you?

Side note: My band MAY be playing in the tailgate lot at the USC game. We're still working out the details. I'm taking that Thursday off for that... as well as Friday to recover.

Hard to learn anything from an opponent like that, but I think there are a couple of safe assumptions coming on the heels of this game:

-The Defense will most likely be as good as advertised, if not better.

And....

-Jordan Wynn is "ok" in the short/intermediate passing game and absolutely horrid in the deep game. Enough talk of shoulder surgeries and wondering if he can reclaim his freshman form. What you saw last night is exactly what Wynn is: A limited QB.

On the bright side, I already like Johnson's play calling 100x's more than I liked Chow's. Wynn is an ulcer waiting to happen for Ute fans, but with a strong running game and what could possibly be the Pac 12's best 1 or 2 defenses, Utah still has a shot at having a pretty good year.

Next week is going to be a dog fight up in Logan...

I'm not expecting much from Utah State. I think the Utes should win comfortably. The score may not indicate that but the feel of the game should. Then they have another patsy and then conference play starts. Given their weak non-conference schedule, I just hope they go to Tempe without any injuries.

So why not start Wilson? Is he more limited than Wynn at this point? Do you believe that what he lacks in the "experience" department might be made up by what he has in the "athleticism" department over Wynn?

Starting a true freshman QB is always a dicey proposition at best. I think considering Utah's strengths in other areas, Whit probably wants to be cautious when messing with the QB spot. With that being said, I think Wilson is the full time starter before the season is done. Poor play and/or injuries will catch up with Wynn sooner or later.

You have to go with Wynn. Very similar to BYU where Hill is the obvious future and talent.

To me, it's Wynn's/Nelson's job to lose.

Lulz... Yep, WSU is clearly the class of the PAC 12.

This game offered little insight, IMO. Wynn looked okay, but he should have looked much better against a team like that.

Dale Murphy's kid had a nice game.

C'mon now. Utah State is solid all across the board. They have the best QB in the state and they have speed at the skilled positions. There's a different vibe for Aggie football the past couple years (especially this year) that I haven't seen in Cache Valley in 20 years.

Do I think Utah will win? Yes, but it's gonna feel just like a Pac-12 game. This game will be harder to win for the Utes than the BYU game.

So the DE dropping back in coverage intercepting the ball and taking it to the house did not stand out to you?

Star mowing 2 guys and nearly taking the back down in the end zone did not stand out?

I know it's a terrible opponent but the defense played pretty well. Gave up 3 rushing yards in the 1st half.

How long has it been since Utah State was even remotely competitive against Utah?
