What's new

OK ,shocks over ....Roster close to set

If there's a position, I'd like to see the Jazz add, it's a 5 who can really score the ball. I'd be happy to pick up Zizic or Maker in the draft tomorrow.

Now we just need a 4th wing.

Yep. I think we'll acquire one, too. I wonder who it'll be? Ideas?

I think we need a starting wing. Ingles is our 4th wing. Hood is our third.
Go get DeMar DeRozan. Gives the team a #1 option on offense. Get Snyder and Co. to turn him into a plus defender and improve his 3 point percentage and he's a star for this team. Especially if the defense can get back to playing like they did to finish out the season two years ago. Hayward and DDR would THRIVE together.

Gobert, Favors, Lyles, Hayward, DeRozan, Hood, Burks, Exum and Hill makes up your main rotation, plus any combination of Mack/Neto, Jingles, Withey/Johnson and any rookies that they bring in this year to round out the bench. Give me a wing (Korkmaz, Bembry or Prince) and a big (Maker, Zizic, Zubac, Qi or Stone) and they're set.

BS on this ...DeRozan needed 20 spg to average 21 ppg ,Hayward needed 15spg to average 20ppg ,I'll take the better shooter/scorer Hayward anyday over chucker DeRozan

Lets put it out there ...Who thinks Hill is going to start over Exum,I don't

So now we have Hill and his 3.5 apg/34 mpg and he's going to be the starting PG.He complements well but he's not going to run the show for the Jazz.Give Exum 34 mpg and he's probably 8 apg plus !! Hill joins the rotation of Exum,Hood and Burks but the best chance the Jazz win big is with Exum running the show.

I was dreaming of this earlier. Then a bench lineup of Exum, Burks, Hood, Lyles, Withey.

Why think small? Trade Burks for Zipser or other early 2nd rounder who might be relatively "NBA-role player ready" and Burke, Mack, Withey or Pleiss for future condsiderations. Use the money saved to lure Pau for a championship run.

By end of year:
PGs: Exum/Hill/Neto
Wings: Durant/Hayward/Hood/Ingles/Zipser
Bigs: Favors/Gobert/Gasol/Lyles and Withey or Pleiss

Shoot at least for WC finals.

We can't trade Burks until the deadline. His value is so low right now and we would get pennies on the dollar. And we need his salary to reach the salary floor.

I do not see the Jazz trading a major rotation guy for a lottery pick this year. The Hill trade shows, to me at least, that they Jazz have gone from young talent accumulation to win now bring in vets to enhance what we have.

A low post scoring 5 and a shooting SF are the best bets in FA IMO.

I can see the Jazz possibly using an accumulation of picks and end of benchers (Burke, Johnson...) and cash to try to move into the first round. Move up and draft Thon Maker (or another gem) and sign Dudley in FA?

I'll be shocked if we don't thin the herd at the point a little bit tonight. I hate to lose Neto, but I have a feeling he might be one to go...

Neto is signed for two more seasons, loves it in Utah and is salary controlled. Burke was out of the rotation, but still has value as an off the bench PG to someone and Mack has one year left before he's an UFA. I'm sure both of them would prefer to be traded at this point to better their situations - while Neto would prefer to stay.

As such, Neto is the only one that I see with a future in Urah. He's outperformed his draft position and looks to be a pesky backup PG who can move the ball, play defense and shoot 3's. I don't see the Jazz moving him.

I think the Jazz can (and will) move at least one - possibly both sometime between now and the start of free agency. I think Burke is gone tonight. Mack by the deadline.

Ya definitely all chuckers away. Keep moving the ball and find the open man.
While I don't disagree with this, the Jazz need talent and he's an incredibly talented player.

IF the Utah Jazz can get a player of that caliber in free agency, it will push them up into a different realm. You teach him how to move the ball. I think that he has the ability to do so, but Quin needs to keep him on a tight leash. Have him focus on getting to the line (which he excels at), P&R, drive and dish, catch and shoot open and corner 3's and being a plus defender (which he's capable of) and he still has room to make a jump in his development.

He's the same age that Carroll was when he got to Atlanta and started working with Quin. I think DeRozan can do the same, but with a much higher ceiling.

Expensive too after leading the team to Eastern Conference Finals.

Absolutely, but he's getting the max (or close to it). The Jazz need to prove that they can attract talent. Even at an overpay, IF he continues to improve on the trajectory that he has since his last contract, he's worth that. I have faith in Quin Snyder getting that out of him. I don't think it's likely that he will sign here, but I still make it my top priority. He gives the Jazz an element that they don't have on the roster. Plus, with the natural development of Lyles, Exum, Hood and Burks. . . that bench is ripped for the future. Even after Exum earns the starting job and Hill fills his spot on the bench in the rotation.

I hear you on all points. My paranoid side keeps whispering that they traded for Mack near the end of last season. Mack was decent once he got rolling. Neto likely has more upside right now, but he'd be a likely chip in the right trade scenario (as would Mack, Burke, Burkes...). At least I'll take solace that we're finally pretty set at 4 of 5 starting positions...
