Sounds like he's coming along better than expected.
Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor said Monday that center Mehmet Okur has been sent by the team to Santa Barbara, Calif., to rehabilitate his left Achilles tendon.
With the Jazz playing five preseason road games in nine days, the team believes that Okur can make better progress by primarily focusing on his rehab, rather than traveling with Utah and sitting on the bench during games.
“He can get it at a consistent time and he’s the focus of it,” said O’Connor prior to the Jazz’s game in Portland. “We have 16 other players that we’re dealing with, and it’s difficult for us.”
Okur has been working in a high-tech human performance lab, with the Jazz monitoring his progress.
The team still plans to evaluate Okur in mid-October. But the initial results from his Santa Barbara stay are promising, and he could join the team in Los Angeles next week for a three-game road trip.
