Olympics Thread

Espn with a really nice summary: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40783047/us-stuns-serbia-4th-quarter-rally-one-win-gold

Embiid played the finest game of his career against Jokic, delivering 19 points and a fiery push in the second half that verified his place in Team USA history.

James delivered only the fourth triple-double in Olympic history with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists and had his hands on the steering wheel of the fourth-quarter push that added another chapter to his amazing career.

Durant made two enormous baskets, a 3-pointer that was part of a six-point possession that was crucial in the comeback. Then a jumper in the final minute that provided vital.

But Curry will have this moment. He scored 36 points, making a numbing 9-of-14 3-pointers and two free throws that sealed the victory. It was Curry at his absolute finest, unstoppable and carrying the U.S. through some dark moments where it looked sure to lose.

I have been hating on Embiid these entire olympics. He made me eat a big ol crow.

What the hell was wrong with lyles?

Tebogo finished the race and wasn't even breathing hard.

It looked like lyles literally might die. He laid on the ground forever, then tried to get up and stumbled for a few steps and fell back down gasping. He looked like he had just ran like 30 miles or something. He was the only one behaving in that way.

I just read that he tested positive for covid before the race.

Dude at my work who said he was varsity track and field in high school was talking about how good he was.
Said he held his high school record on the 100 meters. I asked if he remembers his time and he said it was 9.88 seconds.

I looked up the world record of all time. Bolt ran it in 9.58. Tyson gay ran it in 9.69.

There is no way this white dude from Utah ran it in 9.88 like 35 years ago right?

Good thought about the stopwatch. I didn't think about that.

It's not a big deal. I've run 100m under ten.

Record high school time from Utah ever is 10.36 set in 2024. Previous best in Utah had been 10.47 back in 1981 by Brian Hazelgren.

Embiid finally didnt duck Jokic and all he needed was the best teammates possible around him!
Yep, and all it took to beat Jokic was the entire east and west all stars from the NBA on one team! I mean, that's all it took! Crazy, right? I mean I guess Jokic must be surrounded by the absolute best basketball players in the entire world in this olympics. Jokic even went 0-6 from 3 and the USA still barely pulled out the win on absolute heroics. Crazy how fast the rest of the world has caught up to us.

The increased parity is great for basketball.

There's always been plenty of talent in Europe as well, but nowadays via internet, all the kids see NBA and what it takes to be there. I would guess it has an effect as much as coaching, scouting, and growing number of encouraging examples of success.

Big thing has also been a cultural shift in the US, until Dirk and a few others the attitude in America was that only Americans can play NBA basketball.

I bet there are a lot of LeBron haters, who also think of themselves as patriots, who are sad that USA won.

They were so excited to start hating on LeBron and "today's NBA players"

Yeah during the game when US was down #LeBronze was trending in Twitter and I think it was mostly used by Americans.
