Omnibus Gordon Hayward Thread (To clean up the Board some)

I'm sorry Gordon Hayward is a solid 10mil/year player. I'm not giving him a max contract. Not now, not tomorrow, not anytime.

Thank God the Cavs didn't sign Gordon Hayward. Thank God.

The NBA should get ready for a lockout soon, when Gordon Hayward is becoming a maxcontract player. Money just being thrown around these days

Stan Van Gundy is laughing his @$$ off right now. He said Hayward was a 7 million dollar player.

Even Charlotte fans are pissed.

DL don't start being dumb now. Let him walk or make a deal with the Hornets. Then go out and sign Parson.

From Twitter. "Dear Jazz organization. If you sign Gordon Hayward to a max contract you will be stuck in reverse for the next 4 years."

I have faith in Dennis Lindsey

DL gambled...hoping that the media leaks/rumors regarding matching Gordon Koncak at any cost would work in the Jazz's favor. It backfired. You can't win every hand in poker...throw your cards away and live to play another hand. I believe DL is smart enough to walk away.

Last part of the poker game is convincing Jordan you're going to match, but that if you were blown away you'd consider letting him go. Jordan's been really aggressive, he was thisclose to making the playoffs last year, and DL can use that against him.

Exactly, deals like this don't occur within a vacuum - you overpay Hayward and you just increased Burks and Kanter's asking price. Do we just overpay them too because it's economically viable?
Well said. The Hayward homers continually ignore this....

And FWIW, I don't see how anyone can argue this offseason isn't just a salary bubble, like the tech or housing bubbles. Teams will overspend in the arms race, but next season when the number of teams with cap space is greatly reduced, salaries will contract. So the argument for paying ridiculously overpaying Hayward now is like the argument of buying 1 million for a suburban tract home in 2006 because, hey, real estate always goes up.

Keep Marvin Williams and let Hayward walk

Good luck Hayward and resign Marvin for 7-8 millions!

By showing his hand early, I'm not sure how Lindsey can win this game. He's either going to match an overpriced offer for Hayward or, he won't match the offer and make himself a liar.

This is the funniest post in the history of Twitter.

gordon hayward and al jefferson would make a pretty sick combo

lol, They did make the playoofs last year. Now they are looking to move up a couple slots and not be first round sweeps.

Why is telling other teams you plan to match any offer a good idea? Sure, you are going to scare some teams away, but the ones that are really liking Hayward would be more likely to put in the max deal and put damning options on that contract(like 4th year player option, like 15% trade kick) in the hope that this would be the only way to dissuade you to match the offer. The thing with RFA is that you only need one crazy team to try to pry the player away in order to screw you over. And this is what's happened.

I think if this statement wasn't made chance are Hayward would have probably gotten more offers but at less money or without the contract options trying to make the Jazz not match.
