What's new

On a scale of 1-10, how excited are you for this season?

I am a ten every year but that number can go down to 3 o4 depending how the team does. Right now I am excited for summer league to start. I want to see the new picks and I want to see if Lyles has improved.'

My excitement might go beyond a ten once I see if Dante is healthy and playing aggressively.

Now if we sign a few free agents that can help this team compete in the playoffs I might need to go to the hospital.

I worried about our expectations last year. Everyone raved about Gobert, our defense, blah, bla, blah. Seemed like we were being hyped too much for a team who had proven nothing. It's tough as players not to let that get to your head.

Now fast forward one year. There is not that same public lovefest. But for me, Gobert wasn't right last year and I presume will be this season. We get Exum back at what I expect to be 100% and am thrilled after how he looked in one SL game a year ago. We get Burks back. We add a legit vet and stabalizing presence in George Hill. Hopefully Favors plays a whole season. I like Bolomboy's upside a lot. FA is still looming.

Seriously, I'm at an 11 and would legit bet 25K on this team to win more than 43.0 wins which is what I think Vegas will put us at.

For some people, like me, using 10 on a scale of 1-10 is dumb.

So you wouldn't get more excited if tomorrow they announced Durrant was joining the team? Obviously you couldn't get more excited, you're already as excited as anyone could ever possibly be, you rated you excitement level at 10.

I'd say in this context 5 would be the average excitement level of the average person on Jazzfanz. Most years most of us have an excitement level of 5. A 6 would be above average excitement, a 7 would be very above average excitement, 8 would be extremely excited (like once in a decade level), 9 would be anticipation of the greatest Jazz season in a generation. A 10 would mean that you expect the Jazz to be the best team in the history of basketball and to take the NBA by storm.

Yep, kind of reminds me of this xkcd comic:

I'm excited to see the full package so put me down for a 8-9. My hopes are 50 wins and at least the second round of play offs. I like all our players and don't want to see any of them go. So I guess I am crazy because I want to keep what we have and get different results next year.

An 8 so far. This is the year the Jazz either make the playoffs or need to blow it up, unless like last year significant injuries occur. Getting Hill was great though because the one area I believed the Jazz lacked the most depth was PG, and now there's a guy who can play either the 1 or 2 at a good/great level. If Exum/Hill/Burks/Hood/Hayward are healthy the 1-3 spots have good depth, although getting one more player like Dudley would really shore those 3 spots up nicely. I like Ingles enough, but I like Ingles where I want to see him getting 10-15 spot minutes here and there. He's a great 11th guy for a team, but the team is shaky when he's an 8th guy or so.

I'm at 9.8 excitement quotient.

It is interesting that we are talking about a guy "bounces back" from 6th in RPG, 3rd in BPG, first in rim protection FG%, 6th among Centers in DRPM. That is quite a down-year.

I agree. Though I think more people are nervous about his offensive production. If he can get just a little bit better at that (to me that means hitting 70% FTs and catching the damn ball in the paint more often than not) I think he'll be in the conversation for one of the 3 best centers in the league.

Anyway, go ahead and use the scale like so many do, 90% of the time you're gonna pick the number 9, 10 or 1.
I'm always at a 10 even when we suck. I just love jazz basketball. Tank the season? 10. Just miss the playoffs 10. Get durant and compete for a title? 10.

I do get your point though. I definitely would prefer the third scenario but after a long boring sports summer (**** golf, nascar, soccer, baseball, etc..... I do like mma though) I'm always amped up as high as possible jazz ball. By the time tip off of the first pre-season game arrives I'm at a 10 on the excitement level every year.

There is probably something wrong with me

Bake the cake

I remember you being anti-cake, arguing for a Hayward trade before. Now it's an unequivocal 10???

Last summer I was good with picking up a pg. Or any true upgrade to a starter (extremely unlikely) Otherwise I wanted to bake the cake.

This year I was down with trading Hayward for a top draft pick or two because I think the jazz should always try to get a star when they have the opportunity and because I don't think the jazz should pay hayward 32-39 million (what I think they will have to pay him)

Otherwise I'm still down with baking the cake. Or adding gasol, or conley, or batum, or bazemore.

This year I'm much more flexible.
The injuries last year made me kind of fear the baking of the cake.

8

This should be a pretty good year, but I'm not going to get my hopes up too high. I've got my fingers crossed that we don't have major injury issues again.

I'm with GF on this one. A solid 8. I also think the Jazz will make the playoffs...barring a horrific spat of injuries. If we don't, then the season will have been a complete and utter failure.

Waiting for someone to say 7 so we can all argue with him.

For the sake of argument I will go with a 7. I am definitely not from the everyone gets a trophy generation a 10 excitement should be reserved for something VERY special. Same goes for customer service surveys. I almost never give a 10 because there is always room for improvement. Don't get me wrong I really like the Hill trade and I am very excited for this season and expect a push for 50 wins and home court in the playoffs.
