Haven't read it, but when you have a PG who can't fight over screens and a big who can't recognize when to rotate and isn't quick on his feet, PNR is nearly impossible to defend if the other big can hit the midrange shot.

Marc Gasol isn't a great PNR defender, but Conley can blowup screens and recovery to his man very quickly, allowing Gasol to spend less time checking the guard and more time getting back to his man.

The only problem we have with defending the pick and roll is the pick and the roll part. Other than that, our defense is stellar.
