What's new

only if kevin o connor saw one of my post in the offseason

Wow, Shannon Brown's doing really well through 15 games: 50%+ on both FG and 3PT, 90% FT at 12ppg off the bench. And the Lakers signed him up for 2.2M for 1 year (+ player option).

Not to worry, KOC has Raja signed for 3 years for 3-3.4M a year until he's 36.

This is why I hate the Lakers.

What matters with offseason moves is RELATIVE improvement. How have we improved with respect to the Lakers. Unfortunately a lot of fans seem just excited as soon as we add a couple of players thinking that we improved drastically. You have to only turn around and see that the Lakers have added 3 guys to their own. They have even widened the gap between them and other teams. And it is even debatable how much we improved, if at all. We lost some key players too, while adding some.

Lakers have their top 6 guys from last season and to that core managed to add Barnes, Blake and Ratliff, while retaining Brown. Impressive. I remember saying at that time that those were solid additions while a couple of guys here were just poo-poohing it. It is paying dividends now. Kobe is just going to be much that much fresher in the playoffs.
Oh well, I guess you can always hope for a season-ending ACL from Gasol or Kobe. That's the best you can do.

On a different note, you wonder why unlike Brown, none of our backup PGs can work out their kinks during the summer and get their FG% or their 3-pt FG% significantly up. It never seems to happen to us.

Despite my personal hatred of Kobe Bryant, the Lakers are a very well-run organization from top to bottom. The Lakers have all the advantages in the world, but they make the most of it.

I'm a big fan of Shannon Brown, and I loved how on last night's game the announcers kept mentioning he was a "local product" and were pimping his high school Proviso East!

at any rate, I'm pretty sure he resigned with the Lakers for less than he could have gotten elsewhere, but he wanted to stay with the team. So I'd say Utah had about a zero chance of getting him, but he'd have been a good addition if it were possible.

For what he signed for ($2.2M + $2.4M player option year), if the Jazz had offered him what the Jazz gave Bell ($10M over 3 years), I'm pretty sure he would've gone for the almost $8M guaranteed money extra. The Lakers also wanted Bell but maybe were only offering what they gave Brown plus that aborted privilege of being picked up at the airport by Kobe.

Imagine if Brown had taken Matthews place for $20-25M less or at the very least $5M less than Bell.

So there, LA with Shannon Brown for $2.2M, Utah with Bell for $10M. Nice one, KOC.

I'm sure Brown wanted to stay with the Lakers, but I think he would've jumped on any kind of 3-4 mil a year that extended out 3-4 seasons. That could've been a guaranteed 12 mil + opposed to his 4.whatever he'll get with the Lakers. If he keeps this play up though it won't matter, he'll get a nice boost at the end of his deal. Like vj said the Lakers just have seemed to get perfect fits for their team. Is it luck? Is it Phil's system? Is it the Kobe effect? Probably a bit of all 3 and unfortunately that has created an almost unstoppable juggernaut that all of us have to admit should cruise to the finals. We'll most likely just have to wait until Kobe/Phil run their course. Again though it's the NBA and anything can happen. Kind of like how it was with Denver last year, you just get one of those first 2 road games and you can put the Lakers in a tough spot. Have the Lakers trailed in any Western Conference series since 2008?

I've always liked Shannon Brown and I would've loved it if the Jazz signed him. But I was/am a fan of the Bell signing, so what do I know.

I also really wanted Brown. But am also still a fan of Raja's signing. People here are too quick to discount non statistal production. Bell has done more than his stats indicate for the team this year.

Even though his PER and his +/- are trash, I completely agree. It makes little sense, but I sense a significant impact on this team's level of determination and grit that simply was not there before and in my opinion cannot be explained away with "internal improvement" or simply the departure of Korver and Boozer. I think Bell is bringing some mad intangibles and I sound like a Sloan apologist or something. Oh well.

I thought I would see Stephen Howard at Jurassic Park 2 at the Layton Tinseltown and I was right.

This is where I lose touch with what the NBA is doing. How in the hell is LA affording all of these players?

He is definitely benefiting from being the open guy from Gasol and Bryant double teams, much like Trevor Ariza did. Still deserves credit for improving his game though. I remember our boy Hayward shut him down in preseason for what its worth.

Remember when i said the Jazz would be 10-5 after the first 15 games of the season, they would sweep the dreaded 4 game eastern road trip, and theat all in Utah would survive "The Day After Tomorrow" storm of the century?

Just call me Nostradamus from now on please.

Oh yea...... I predicted Shannon Brown's turnaround.... can you say MIP, and 6th man of the year.
