Open roster spots

With trading away Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver and Jae Crowder, plus, with Thabo Sefalosha not expected back and Ekpe Udoh entertaining multiple offers overseas, the Jazz currently have at least 5 open roster spots.

Who do you want to make the team, and who do you expect to make the team, based on what we know so far?

Good news is there are a bunch of FAs and with the incoming draft class a bunch of players are not going to make a roster. So there should be more FAs then ever that will go for low contracts or vet min contracts. But I am also guessing 3 rookies (or players out of the NBA last year) or more make our roster.

But for real, we might need a backup/3rd string center like Richaun Holmes or Willie Reed. I also like Maxi Kleber but I think he's restricted. One or two of the second rounders might make the team. Jazz have interest in Ariza but probably too expensive. Rockets kinda had to jump through some hoops to get Danuel House back so maybe he could be a budget Ariza. Garrett Temple and Thad Young probably both too expensive too. Zach Lowe said Khem Birch is a lowkey hot free agent but also restricted.

Who do you think the top FA targets are? The front office seems to have kept pretty quiet regarding who they are expected to pursue. I'm wondering if another trade is expected to happen in early July that will open up more cap space.

Thaddeus Young. Zach Lowe's podcast was talking about how Young was the old man out of their big rotation. Maybe he wants a big role for a year.

Frankie Ferrari simply for marketing purposes.

I also think our draft class has 2 of the 3 make it and we call up Willie Reed. After that, barring a lights out move for Tobias, we will get a few vet minimum players and maybe an Ariza type, just likely not him specifically.

Justin Wright-Foreman has a path to make the team. Naz Mitrou-Long is playing summer league with the Cavs. I think his 2-way contract was a one-year deal.

There's also been some talk that Raul Neto's option may need to be to complete the Conley deal, but I don't know the details.

Well, with the way the free agency rumors have me hyped after trading for Conley two of those spots will be Harris and Portis.

That’ll make:

Gobert
Harris/Portis
Ingles/Niang
Mitchell/O’Neale
Conley
And our three draftees.

That’s 11 and our playoff rotation.

I can't tell if you're joking or not...

Raul and Rudy are a joined at the hip. I think the Jazz decline Raul's option if they have to, but he'll be back on at least the vet's minimum if he wants it.

I doubt Mitro-Long or Cavanaugh are back on two-ways. Neither adds much. Cavanaugh isn't a 3pt threat.
Best bets to make the team or get 2-ways, IMO, are Willie Reed (I think he'd have to be on the roster, wouldn't he?), the 3 draft picks, Cousins, and Juwan Morgan.

Guess it all depends on what vets the Jazz can sign at the minimum and with their room exception. I think Reed would be a good replacement for Udoh's spot. Wright-Foreman likely gets a roster spot but stars for the Stars while he works on his PG skills. I predict Oni makes the team and gets some mins if he shows he can hit 3's. Brantley will also be on the roster. IMO, Cousins and Morgan are the leaders in the clubhouse for 2-ways, but Jazz could also pluck someone off another team at cut-down day.

How do we get Harris AND Portis?

He's automatically signed. Freddy "freaking" Ferrari.

It's really remarkable how bad Portis is inside the 3pt line.

This year Ricky Rubio and Portis shot the same percentage on 2 point FGA. WUT?
