Orlando Detroit Trade Idea/Rumor

This is actually one that has legs in my opinion:

Magic Trade No. 12 and Jameer Nelson to the Detroit Pistons for Brandon Jennings and 2016 First-Rounder
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2079654-nba-draft-2014-best-early-first-round-trade-scenarios

Van Gundy and Orlando obviously have a long working relationship. Nelson seems to be a Van Gundy favorite and also has a favorable contract. Nelson can be cheaply bought out or kept on as a veteran PG. Vaughn may be able to get through to Jennings as a fellow PG, as Skiles seemingly once did.

Makes no sense... Jennings and Jameer are almost equal value basketball wise... why would ORL give up a #12, when they can get a young PG in this draft???

Who?

Ennis will probably be gone by #12 since he is the only "true" PG prospect in the lottery. The next best PG is Elfrid Payton, who would be a reach at #12. Also, the Magic are going to draft Smart or Exum at #4 (unless Wiggins/Parker/Embiid falls) so they probably won't even be interested in PGs at 12. Their team is already super young, so they may be weary of adding too many rookies.

The only thing I don't get is why they would want Brandon Jennings. His contract isn't terrible, with only 16 million over the next 2 years remaining, but it's still too much money for his terrible scoring efficiency.

Van Gundy likes Jameer.

Jameer is a veteran who has been on playoff teams and wouldn't take shots away from the younger up and comers.

They are paid the same, but Nelson is in the last year of his contract where Jennings still has 2 years left.

Ennis should be there at twelve.. they can always grab Smart or Exum also.

History says PG rise in PG-deficient classes, though you could be right because the teams before 12 are mostly set at starting PG.

Still, assuming they draft SMart/Exum at 4, do they really want another rookie?

Their starters would be:

Smart/Exum
Oladipo
Afflalo
Harris
Vucevic

The middle of the draft is a bunch of so-so wing prospects, the 1 position Orlando doesn't really need to add any youth too. Just don't get why they would waste the 12th pick to obtain Brandon Jennings instead of a solid PF.

Exactly. The last thing they need is Brandon Jennings... lol

Orlando's best case scenario is if McDermott drops to 12. They could use another shooter, especially if they draft Smart/Exum. He could be a good stretch 4 for them.
