Oscar Nominations

Saw Buried, I'm Still Here, and The Kids are All Right recently. Liked them all and could see how Kicky had them on his top 10. The last few minutes of Buried was pretty freakin' powerful.

I just finished my second viewing of Buried. Even the "making of" featurette is intense. Real creativity comes from limits. That's why I'll always be far more impressed by a film like Buried that takes almost everything off the table immeidately and makes it work than I will be by "Inception," which gives itself the infinite possibility in advance..

Maybe I am an old-fashioned romantic or something but I find artsy depressing movies not in the least entertaining. I go to the movies to escape the harsh realities of life, not relive even worse harsh realities of someone else. But that is just me. I do not expect a happy ending every time or crap like that and I can appreciate a good scary movie, and I like thrillers too, but Buried was just too dark. No redeeming value that I could see. Again, my 2 cents. I can respect that others enjoy something like that, but I find it hard to view it as a best film. Just show the actual video of Sadam's hanging. At least that had a happy ending.

For the record I didn't like Inception. It took too many liberties with it's own premise and you knew all of the pitfalls, derivative just-in-time "saves" and ending from the get-go. Drivel really. But cool effects.

For some reason writing about Buried makes me think of this for some reason. Worst and most disturbing movie I ever watched: Man Bites Dog.
