The point is that Whittman really hasn't trusted him this year. When he has gotten minutes he produced. Whittman just isn't a very good coach, it's well documented. Now that OP is getting minutes the team is dominating. It's not a coincidence.

It’s taken time to get Porter to this point. Pierce has been on the soft-spoken forward in an effort to tap into his potential.

“Paul is always talking to this kid,” Wittman said.

But when Pierce isn’t in his ear, Porter is watching the vet from afar, mentally cataloging how Pierce prepares, practices and carries himself during games.

So even when Pierce isn’t hitting a ton of daggers like in Game 2, his impact can be felt in the play of Porter.

“He’s unbelievable as far as mentoring,” Porter said. “[He] really doesn’t have to say much. It’s just what he does.

“And for me, a young guy, I am willing to see that and I am going to soak as much up as I can by just watching him, how he comes in and prepares, how focused he is, his routines, things like that.”
