Overhyping Favors

Why don't we just let Favors develop? I'm sick of all these over expectations that fans have for him. Can he be great? Sure. But, he isn't there today. So, lets pull back the reigns and quit calling for him to start till he proves he should start. In the mean time this is a great time for him to develop to some day replace Paul or Big Al.

Nope, the time to develop was the last two years. This is the year to shine. if he doesn't really make a name for himself the odds are against him that he ever will.

The old rule of thumb was 3-5 years for bigs to develop. And that was when they actually had time in college to mature.
Favors will be fine. He had ONE bad PRE-SEASON game.
Is he going to be an all-star this year? Probably not. Will he average aroud 14-10. Likely.

The ONLY concern I have is if he was pouting a bit because he didn't start. I've heard enough interviews to lead me to believe that probably wasn't the case.

He didn't prove that in the playoffs?

The thing with developing a player is that they need real opportunities, and in the rare instances where Favors has gotten them, he's done well.

Most future stars show huge leaps though, which Favors has not yet done. He's probably still too young to project, but to me he's looking like a lesser roam defender than Ibaka & DeAndre Jordan with more offensive potential.

He doesnt have that nasty attitude to be an All Star though. I want to see him get really pissed off in a couple of games and start taking it players--dirty or not. The Kid badly needs some fire.

Not really. His stats were fairly underwhelming. I think you can say most players had a very bad series against SA. Favors was just o.k. Nothing more.

He was by far our best player for the entire series, basically forcing Corbin to start him for the fourth game.

Yes. But the best player in a short sample size: 3 games against the same team. Everyone SUCKED that series...Favors just played a little better than the rest.

Over the course of the regular season, Derrick didn't really stand out for the most part. Some games he had very good defensive moments. But then he'd just kind of blend in for 3-4 games after that. IF Favors wants to start, he needs to become an ELITE, CONSISTENT defender and an adequate offensive player.

A little better? He had a +39 plus/minus rating in that series. That is ridiculous.

This.

And quite frankly, since we know Jefferson and Millsap will get a ton of time, I'm worried that Kanter (given how good he looks) will get more floor time and that Favors will get less...like around 19 minutes per. Don't get me wrong. I want Enes to get PT. But I want Favors to get even more.

I agree with all of those that have said let Favors develop but are concerned with his lack of nastiness. He'll be great, but I'd love to see him develop a mean streak .. I'm afraid I know better, though.

If Kanter can just be the offensive dude and Favors the defensive dude, I think that would still be pretty awesome.

I'm thinking we should start abandoning the Favors post-up though. I think the best way for him to peak offensively is a pick n roll player.

I would have to agree with the posters who said he was a lot better than underwhelming. He had spots where he was outstanding and if his stats weren't so good, it was more because he didn't get enough playing time.
