Pacers Making Play at Millsap?

People who think the Pacers would trade Sap for Granger are crazy. Not as crazy as those who think Granger is useless, of course.

The only player they have that I want is Hibbert. Don't need Collison, we have Harris, and both Burks and Hayward cover up his weaknesses as a pg. I don't like what Granger would do to this offense, and do we really need George? I say no.

Collison for Harris is essentially trading for the same player except of course Harris is a few years older and makes about 7mil more per season. I'm sure Utah would have to throw in a pick and take Posey's expiring off their hands.

Am I the only one who thinks they would trade Granger before George? He has a ton of potential and Granger is getting past his prime. If I were Larry Bird, George would be an untouchable for now.

I think Millsap and Granger are about equal value so a Millsap/Bell for Granger would work. With that being said, all that move really does is (maybe) make us better now. He doesn't really factor into future plans at all except maybe that his BIG contract is up right around the time we would need to resign Hayward and Favors.

Oh, and I don't like Collison.

Collison and George's salaries add up to 3.8 mil. Millsap makes 6.7 mil next year per Hoopshype. Per David Locke salary have to match with 140%. 1.4 *3.8 = 5.32. We need another player to make this work. I like Colison and George as players. If I had to pick I would take George and Posey with a draft pick. I would then waive Posey. Of course we could go the other way and make it Memo + draft pick for Posey and George.
Unless something's changed, those rules only apply to a team over the cap which the Pacers are well below. The Jazz could dump a bunch of salary on them and take little to none back.

One the one hand, the Jazz have way too many PFs and need a real SF (George), a real PG (Collison), and a real C (Hibbert). On the other hand, Millsap was the Jazz's best player last season (besides Deron). I'd rather dump Jefferson on them for Hibbert, go after Marc Gasol, and if that works, flip Hibbert to someone else (GSW for Dorrell Wright and Charles Jenkins? Detroit for Knight?).

But I'm getting ahead of myself. I wouldn't trade before Millsap before Harris or Jefferson.

Collison is smaller. But Collison can shoot and run an offense. I don't know if the Pacers would ask that much to trade straight up since I think Harris has a better name than his game and Collison is coming off of a underwhelming year.

Picking up Granger would be cool if we still had Williams and were trying to compete for a title. Given our current circumstances with rebuilding I don't see the utility in these deals. If we're wanting to maintain some long-term mediocrity these deals make perfect sense.

Collison did really good in a PG centric offense in NOLA. He can pass, he can shoot, and this year will be his 3rd in the league. He would be my main target next to George (not happening) and Granger (probably not happening).

Jefferson
Favors
Granger
Hayward
Harris

Not saying that is Championship contending, but that could very well be as good as our Dwill/Boozer era teams once they mesh.

If the Pacers are going for it, then Granger is absolutely the last player they would trade.

And considering that he's 28 and paid about $15 million, the Jazz shouldn't be interested in picking him up either.

How many years does he have left though? As long as he expires in time to re-sign our group of (hopefully) good rookie contracts, is he really costing us that much? Not saying I'm in love with the idea, it's something to think about (if it is actually being offered).

Several months ago I bored all of you to death with my promotion of George. I want him. Don't think indy will give him up, but if we can get him and Collison, then I'd do it, even though I'd miss the hell outta Millsap. I think Collison is more than a backup, BTW

Glad to see you back.

For sure. He had a great rookie season in a PG centric offense, but still managed to put up respectable numbers for a 2nd year player in a less PG friendly offense. Don't really know anything about him defensively though.
