There was a panhandler outside of a Panda Express one night and my dad bought the dude a 3 entree and a drink plus tried to give him a $20...dude broke down and cried and said he hadn't had a real meal in 4 days and refused to take my dad's money because he said was going to spend it on drugs and didn't want to disrespect my dad who fed him. **** was a surreal moment.
There was another time my dad bought a guy some food and the guy had the balls to tell my dad he needed money not food and my dad nearly killed the guy lol
Yep, my dad always told me a story in NYC where a bum asked for money. My dad proceeded to ask him what for and the guy said food. My dad said, "Hold on, I'll be right back." He came back 10 minutes later with a bunch of Mickey D's and the bum goes, "What the **** am I gonna do with this?"
I think most use it on drugs and alcohol (also a drug)...I too think there are definitely pro bums. I remember reading an article a decade or so ago about people who did it in a certain area of NYC. It wasn't by Wall Street or anything either. I wanna say it was on the water...anyway, I think they made upward of $500 a day or something. Crazy.
Good luck, GF. I'm not sure what you hope to gain but to put your money where your mouth is is admirable and the experience could be amazing. Life-altering even.
On a tangential note, I thought recently about what good could come from all the money people donate to churches each year. How much of that is wasted on ********? Paying pastors, other "employees" of the church, money for upgrades to the building. What a freakin' waste. If we, just in the U.S. alone, took all that money, and put it to use, 100% use, I wonder how great our country could be.
