Parker vs Gordon video analysis. Must watch

If you were to dig, I think you'd find it's pretty rare. Bowen is a good example, but Pippin was a 70% free throw shooter in college. Even Bowen shot 54%. I'm not saying he can't become a decent shooter. It's just that his free throw % has got to be a concern. He doesn't have the ability right now to space the floor. If he's going to play the 3 teams have to respect his perimeter game. I like everything else about him though.

A legit concern would be teams hacking him. You seem to be completely ignoring the fact that his J is fine. I totally had this prob when I was a kid. I could shoot a J and would brick a ft. Why? because I didn't practice shooting FTs. I suspect that the thing Gordon needs is more hours at the line/shooting coach.

His J is not fine.
.86 PPP on catch and shoot
.66 PPP on shots off the dribble
10/34 on jump shots
45.3 FT%
51.4 2P% ranks 17th among PF's
.
He struggles to create his own shot. He's hit some open 3's but that will be tougher to do in the NBA. He's really raw offensively.

I'll nit pick here. He's a 3. Started that way at AZ until Brandon Ashley got hurt.

Btw, his shooting form has already improved a lot. Looks like he knows his week was as well and is working on it.

You're talking about a kid that had No J in high school and he knows it. By the end of the year his shooting mechanics had definitely improved. We will see if he can continue that trend and if he can do the same for his FT. I think he will.

If Parker falls it will be because he is a vertically challenged tweener who won't be able to guard anybody at the next level. And unless Gordon learns to shoot Vonleh is a better prospect, IMO. I love Gordon's athleticism, but don't see how he's anything more than a solid role player if he can't space the floor (42.2 FT% doesn't give me a lot of hope).

Your comments are laughable about Parker. Vertically challenged? This guy isn't an elite athlete like LeBron, Wiggins, LaVine etc. but he is still more then athletic enough. If you watched him in college you would know that and even more so, the workout vid he did, he looked like he's trimmed down a bit and he looked real explosive. It annoys me the way people talk about Jabari's D, he's not by any means a defensive stopper but he's not terrible. He was guarding centers in Duke some of the time, and I watched plenty of games to know that his defense is alright, some games he looked impressive on d. People are too quick on jump on things like this, he hasn't played a single game in the NBA, saying 'he won't be able to guard anybody at the next level' is just stupid.

This.
Damn he looked good in that video.
Blew me away tbh

Don't take things so literally. He can obviously guard people. The way Hardin and Boozer "guard" people. But you'd be hard pressed to find a credible source who doesn't question Parker's ability and effort on defense. I think he will struggle to contain SF's in the NBA. His length helps him in the paint, but he doesn't battle and gives up too much ground too easily. Sometimes he looks like he doesn't care about defense and is just going through the motions. I really don't know what position he's going to guard. Hence the tweener label. If you have watched him play you know there are good reasons why people talk about his defense.

You may find it laughable, but few people use the words Jabari Parker and explosive in the same sentence. There's no doubt he is athletic and will be a great offensive player in the league, but please don't try to tell me he's explosive based on a pre-draft, one-on-none video. Gordon is explosive. Parker is not, and it's not a secret. Here's what Draft Express has to say:
.
"very mobile and agile but isn't an explosive athlete"
"doesn't get a ton of lift around the rim"
"can get up when he has time and room to load up his jump but plays below the rim from a standstill"
"Struggles getting to a lot of shots around the rim because of his vertical limitations"
.
He's going to be a very good, maybe even great player, and I'd love to have him. But that doesn't mean there aren't negatives. Feel free to post links to any respected souce who describes Parker as explosive or anything more than a below average defender. His agent doesn't count.

I wouldn't take it so literally if the comments weren't so out there. I just didn't agree one bit, is all. Again, you haven't seen him in the pro's, you (or I) have no clue what he is focusing on while preparing himself for the big time, he may be working his arse off on his defense, or he may not. But that is why I try to avoid ruling things out for players this young and this in-experienced.
Yes I understand most question his D and I acknowledge that, I get it. Like I said, he was battling against bigger dude's at times, this isn't an excuse for his effort, just putting it out there.

Compared to others he isn't explosive, but he still has an edge to him. All I said was in that video he looked explosive, I didn't say that was going to translate to the league, like you said he was against nobody out there, but what, you disagree that he looked explosive in that workout?

People can say what they want, but how many times have legit sources been wrong about players? Time and time again players prove doubters wrong. I'm just saying, a lot of my thoughts on Jabari come from watching many games and many highlights. And "struggles to get a lot of shots around the rim because of his vertical limitations"? Really? He flat out bullied guys in college at times. Some games he got to the rim at will. Again, obviously NBA is different.

There are negatives to every single player.

And I'm not going to do that because there won't be much or any out there. Like I've said, I'm not denying his lack of D.
Feel free to watch full games of Parker's at Duke though, I feel they would help out here

the original vid? or the Parker workout vid mentioned above?

The original vid.

"We're going to take a look at how Jabari and Gordon did against each other... but it's worth noting they didn't actually go head to head very much"

ok

So, are we officially the new, old Clippers/Cavs/Kings/Bucks when our starting five is:

#9 pick - Burke
#9 pick - Hayward
#5 pick - Gordon
#3 pick - Favors
#3 pick - Kanter

And not one is even close to an All-Star game? Ha ha. Pathetic. But, but, but, if Corbin....

Again, if you have a chance to give up three of those players to move up into the top 3, you DO IT.

I think he has a lot of potential to be an all-star. But, at the same time, he can end up being a bust. I would go for a home run. :D
