Paul Pierce Trade

Pierce to the Jazz? Never ever ever ever heard of this proposal before.................

Oh and no matter the trade outside of maybe sending Scott Layden for him straight up the answer is going to be no for me.

While we're at it, why not get Dwight Howard for Big Al and Raja and then package Josh Howard and Devin Harris for Lebron?

Imagine the Jazz with a fearless, proven veteran, all-star, future hall-of-famer to help guide this team as the schedule toughens. An experienced leader. Yes, he's on the downward slope, but could the Jazz become true contenders this year or next with Pierce in the line-up? Mortgage a bit of the future to get him. Hayward, Evans and the GS number 1. With the trade exemption, might be able to get it done, but probably wishful thinking. Thoughts?

I am not necessarily encouraging this trade, but I really don't think we'd even have to give up the Golden State pick if we wanted to get it done. Boston is looking at rebuilding per many recent Sportscenter and NBATV stories. A $10.8 million exception and a young player with lots of potential like Hayward are significant steps to retooling. I think you are giving up much more than would be required to get Pierce at this stage of his career when his team is starting to get desperate.

The only deal I would probably do with Boston:

Boston is $8 million dollars above the Luxury Tax threshold. This means they must pay an additional $8M in taxes, plus they will not receive the dividends paid to the non-tax payers. If Boston were to dump, say a Ray Allen and his $10M expiring deal, the Celtics would get below the tax threshold, saving $8M and they would not have to pay Ray Allen his full $10M. This would effectively save them $18M in just this season.

Depending on whether Ray is healthy or not or if Boston is struggling, maybe the Jazz use the Memo trade exception to acquire Allen’s contract and a first rounder. It’s basically what OKC did for Eric Maynor. Just a thought.

I'm more interested in poaching Rondo from them through a 3 way with Orlando, now that Dwight has indicated Boston is on his list.
