So is Pence better than Trump? If Trump gets impeached, or in some other way drops out of the Presidency, is Pence going to be better? If so, or if not, in what way(s)?

Added a poll for fun.

Pence will be worse if you're strongly opposed to his ideology because I think he'll be a much more effective politician and he'd have a majority in both houses.

I hated the idea of my kids having to respect the office of President with Trump inside it. Now I think he is doing a great job so far. Some of his ideas are pretty messed up, but the guy has done the one thing we have not seen in a long time: a willingness to give and take. Isn't that what everyone has been bitching about for the last 20 years?

Although I disagree with your statements about Trump ill still ask this question.

Clinton didnt give and take as President? More Republican bills passed than any Republican President around him. He was pretty bipartisan.

I do not see eye-to-eye with Pence on many things, and I think he would be even more effective at taking us back to 20th century ideals than Trump is going to be. And I don't want to see many 20th century ideals come back.

I don't see the relevance. That Clinton wasn't that long ago? He was to me.

I liked Clinton for a lot of reasons.
I liked Bush for a lot of reasons.
I liked Obama for a lot of reasons.
I think I like * for a lot of reasons too.

They all had their mess ups, but I think they all did their best to work within the political environment dealt.

Fair enough. You said 20 years so I took that literal and you just meant the last couple presidents I guess.

The last "couple" of presidents comprise 16 years. Add in Clinton and you have 24 years. 3 presidents. How many presidents did you expect in a 20 year time frame? Going back 40 years we have had a total of 6 presidents.

I'd WAY rather have Pence than Trump. Of course, I'd say that about just about anyone, since personal integrity rates high on my personal list of presidential traits and I think Trump is extremely lacking in that department. Wise decision making, too.

I was saying Clinton was a president in the last 20 years. Not sure what your point is.

It isn't even close. Pence is a Victorian prude with 19th century sensibilities, an enemy of women's rights, an advocate of legislating religious beliefs, and an enabler of intolerance and bigotry (if not actually a racist and bigot himself). As JazzGal points out, Pence would take us back, if he could, to the bad old days of an America in which only certain favored groups enjoy the full fights and benefits of citizenship.

What Pence is IS NOT is a dangerously unstable, narcisistic wanna-be autocrat, habitual liar, conman absolutely lacking in self-restraint and judgment who is a daily embarrasment to this great country and a serious and real threat to world stability.

I am beginning to think that Trump is actually the lesser of 2 evils. He is so over the top that he is losing support from his own side in great chunks. This means he will ultimately be less effective and taken less seriously than an empowered Pence who could really leverage increased support from the legislative branch to make sweeping reforms and do real and lasting damage. Trump is a bad head-cold, all symptoms, little substance. Pence would be the cancer eating away at the inside.

lol Pence is probably even worse. Lol @ The Dems for losing to these two complete morons. Trump is easily the stupidest president in US history.

I wanna say he'd be an improvement, but that might just be the "what about right now" attitude I'm stuck in.

In the last year we've gone from respected and feared to mocked and feared.

I generally respect your opinion on political matters, and I am not saying that I don't respect this opinion, I just don't understand it. Trump seems to be the least effective president I have seen in my lifetime. I remember back to the first Bush. Granted, I think that the Bushes, Clinton and Obama have been pretty great presidents, and maybe I have set the bar too high with Trump, but I jsut don't see how Trump is doing anything positive.

I initially said nothing of presidents: "Isn't that what everyone has been bitching about for the last 20 years?"

What's so hard to understand? The guy get's call out for disregarding his own campaign promises as most presidents must, and how does he answer? With truth. Basically, "ahh, **** it. I tried to make that happen but was never going to get close to the votes. What did you want me to do? Nothing? We got what we could and we closed the deal quickly without dragging it out in some stupid Washington D vs. R war, threatening to shut down the government, etc.".

I'm pretty cool with the slow movement of politics. Patience brings cooler heads and better results. But most of you want results now and that is what Trump is bringing with those patient heads behind the scenes enacting the bills they've all agreed upon, across the isles, for quite some time.

people always claim republican x is worse ever! than go in revisionist history and say romney was way better. but we keep hearing every next republican presidential candidate is worse than the racist/homophobe/sexist that came before him!

relaly stop the stupidity!

Frankly Romney would have blown away just about any candidate that ran last year. Not necessarily on the vote, since the main voting blocks are anti-mormon for whatever reason, but on sheer ability and integrity alone. Romney in the presidency would be infinitely better than the dumpster-fire we have now. He would have been better than anyone in the field last year, hands down.
