Phoenix overrated?

I know it's just pre-season, but why would Phoenix lose to Toronto at home by 51 pts. PHX's starters played and were complete gunned down by the Raptors' hodge-podge of players.

Maybe they were testing something out and it didn't end up working on their first attempt. I just can't see worrying much about the outcome of a pre-season game. They aren't playing for anything, really.

Although an individual preseason game (especially an early one) isn't that much cause for concern it is my belief, backed up by about 5-6 years of specific observation on the subject, that teams with "extreme" won-loss records in the preseason tend to carry those trends over to exceed or fail to meet general expectations (depending on the directions of the extreme record) about their season. By extreme I mean teams that have records like 8-0, 7-1, 1-7, or 0-8. Those records seem to be an indicator of some intangibles, possibly including how much a team wants to win.

Specifically I remember a few years ago when Miami cratered in the pre-season and went 0-8. This was only two years removed from their championship and I predicted they would be one of the worst teams in the league. This got roundly criticized as putting too much emphasis on the preseason. By the end of the year, Miami had the #2 pick in the draft and were coming off a 15 win season. Still people continue to state that the preseason doesn't matter as if it were a truism.

Preseason doesn't say as much for Phoenix as signing Matt Janning does.

You are really dumb. So dumb. For real, Phoenix.

How much stock can you put in a preseason record when half the minutes are given to rookies/roster hopefuls?

They have no inside scoring threat, an old sf playing pf who is ineffective without the ball in his hands (Turkoglu), a great pg with a bad back and closer to 40 than 30, and a good sf who is even closer to 40 than the pg. Anybody thinking this team is somehow going to stay afloat without Amare are kidding themselves. As great as Nash is I can pretty much guarantee two things for him this season. His assists will take a hit, and he won't be playing in May. The best thing the Suns could do for him is to trade him to a contender to get him the title he deserves. Kerr hit the eject button on this mess just in time.

Phoenix is getting out-rebounded by 15 - 20 boards every night. PHX just lost to Toronto again, getting out-rebounded by 19 boards. This gave Toronto 19 more offensive possessions (shots).

There's no way you can win when you give the other team 20 more shots than you get, no matter how efficient your offense is.

Didn't they out rebound the Jazz on the first of there meetings? Should that make us worried? I know we were on the back end of a back-to-back, but still, it's preseason and nobody should have been that tired on limited minutes.

The Jazz out-rebounded the Suns 51 - 34 in the final box score.
