What's new

play along: What could Trey + #23 get us?

I would trade Trey straight up for #16 or #19 if TJ Warren, Mcdermott, or Stauskis are still on the board. We need a wing scorer or shooter. Then take Jordon Clarkson from Missouri to be your PG. He has NBA size. Or take Napier at 23 and get a PG who can shoot.

I don't agree. We'll see how Smart does next year.

I think Smart is overrated. I see so many flaws in his game. IMO he's an great prospect if he's playing the point as a combo guard he's not nearly as valuable. I don't think he has the court vision, he's too turnover prone, and his above average dribbling skills and shiftiness won't allow him to get to the basket enough to overcome his inability to shoot consistently to be successful as a full-time PG.

I'm really tired of all the people tossing Trey aside.

Are you ****ing kidding me? We moved up to get him, NCAA player of the year, ice in his veins end of game killa, fearless, top 3 in rookie of the year voting....
and some of you knuckleheads are ready to toss him aside? For who? Smart? Give me a ****ing break. Smart could bust. He's small as ****. Or he could turn into a decent Nate Robinson type.

Smart would have been drafted ahead of Burke last season.

I, too, lobbied for Burke. But I've seen what I've seen. Exum or Smart would be an upgrade + we can move Burke for a good asset. What's not to like?

I'm on the fixed bandwagon.

I like Trey, but lets be clear: If he was coming out in this draft and had just led his team to the Final game and lost to lets say Shabazz Napier of UCON he would be battling out the 5th PG off the board late in the first round with Napier.

Napier is at best 20 and worst 30. Trey would be the same. There just aren't as many teams needing a PG in this draft and those that do, or are looking to be taking one don't necessarily want the PG as a starter. Napier is widely considered a very good back up PG who will likely be taken 22-28. Payton will likely be taken 14-21 and will likely be a back up as well.

PG's to be taken before Burke and Napier:

Exum
Smart
Payton
Ennis

and it is likely the latter 2 are expected to be back ups.

We have to come to grips with last years draft. IT WAS that bad! I felt we should have taken Steven Adams because I think he is a legit defensive center that will get better and better. That said Trey was a decent pick and in a draft where we were looking for a PG and leadership I was happy with the pick. But that doesn't mean he is a career starter. Right now and for the forseeable future he is a bottom 5 starting PG in the league.

If someone wants him, great! I would trade him and #23 if we could some how move up to #12-#16 if we can get a shooter like McDermott if he slips, Stauskis, or even moving up to get Payton or Ennis. But I just don't see any takers when few teams need a PG and their are 5 better than Burke in this draft.

Ouch

and yet it's true.

Clarkson is really interesting. He might be someone the Jazz target at #23 to play behind Burke for the next season.

What have you seen? A guy playing the majority of the season with a injured index finger on his shooting hand. Or maybe one of the best PNR guards to leave college being used as a spot up shooter while Hayward ran the offense?

People say he's too slow, but when I point out the success he had creating separation from some of the better perimeter defending PG's than it wasn't enough. Well he wasn't given much chance to do more. If you weren't impressed with Burke that's one thing, but to act like a rookie at the most difficult and deepest position in basketball can be already be judged is insane. Especially with the flashes Trey has shown in his rookie season dispute the obvious road block I already commented on is just crazy to me. I guess it's the fanatic part of fandom.
