player interviews

i thought we might want a place to discuss player interviews as they come out. i could have put it in the media day thread, but that has kinda turned into something else. feel free to post all your stuff from listening too. i've been in the car for the last 30 so i wasn't

paul's interview was pretty lame because they didn't ask anything about minutes or role. he did say that he's been working hard on ball-handling and scoring off the bounce.

derrick is up to 258 but expects to lose some of that as the season goes on. again, no questions about whether he expects to start or come off the bench.

didn't hear a ton of hayward's interview, mostly just him talking about how crazy last season's compressed sked was and explaining that his playoffs sucked because he just missed shots and the spurs dominated them as a team.

mo said the one thing that has stood out for him so far is the athleticism of burks. he says that burks has been "grinding" this summer and it shows. he said he's taking alec under his wing. he also likes marvin's versatility. he says his role is to be an extension of the coach and instill toughness.

anything else i missed?

I have listened to all of them except Sap. So far Mo have been the best when it comes to info. Love the info he gave on Burks.

there seems to be a lot of consensus that burks is ready to impress. wowza. that's good, it would be easily for a talented young guy to go away feeling picked on that he didn't get consistent minutes, but it sounds like he was pretty quick to say "well i'm gonna go earn it then." good to hear, esp since i've worried about his attitude and whether he has a bit of entitlement.

ooh, dennis lindsey. talking about how they evaluate trades. once again, locke lets him off the hook with creampuff questions -- not that he'd get an answer if he directly asked "are you still taking phone calls", but i'd have a little more respect if he'd actually try.

earl - enes looks amazing physically. he says he's playing with more confidence, taking smack and playing -- wait for it -- ABOVE the rim. favors is a "grown man beast" and is also going to have a great year, but the big issue will be putting it all together. earl knew all along the jazz would make the playoffs and "put it out there as much as possible" to get guys to believe it, even when the outlook was pretty bleak. his injury status is day-by-day. "sooner or later i'll be on the court."

Earl is going to make a good coach one day.

DeMarre Carroll has life advice for Enes Kanter: “I try to talk to him and tell him you can’t put your whole life on Twitter.”

Stop drinking the haterade. Be a homer instead.

Not hating bro. I've just read enough team's websites and press releases to realize it's always all positive, or seemingly so. Hell, we could probably go to Wiz' website now and be convinced they could win 45 games this year.

For me, I want to see it on the court. It being consistency from Hayward, and other other young ones clearly taking it to the next level.

Every player has put on muscle, lost weight, is in better shape and 100% healthy. The team has amazing chemistry and everyone's game is better. Media day is like a wedding day, its all smiles and laughter, we all know it changes after that, but we still have wedding celebrations.

marvin - my role is what it was in atlanta. i have no complaints or regrets, i think i did well. locke kept saying "i think there's more to you" and he said it was different from his role in HS and college, but he'll do whatever corbin wants him to do. "in atlanta that was my role and i just went out there and did my role as well as i could."

He almost seems kind of down... idk if excepting is the best thing for him to be doing

Sounds like he's lost some confidence. But watch out if the positive locker room, team success and some encouragement from a vet leader like Mo gets this guy his groove back. I'm looking for a big year from Marvin.
