Point Differential Against Potential Opononents
-7.3 vs Okc (all losses)
-12.25 vs golden state (all losses)
-20.5 vs Spurs (all losses)

Injury Notes
-Jazz didn't have Gobert and Mack against Okc in 2 of the 3 games
Alec Burks played in both the games that Gobert and Mack didn't

-Jazz didn't have Gobert in 1 of the Golden State games and Mack wasn't there for 2
Alec Burks played in 2 of the 4

-Jazz didn't have Gobert, Favors and Mack in 1 each and Alec missed all 3 against the Spurs

(I believe that all opponents starters were healthy in all of their games, but I don't remember for certain.)

Put simply, the Jazz need to try and get up to 6th by winning out. OKC is the best matchup the Jazz have. Now, let's say that 6 is out of reach. The Spurs have romped on the Jazz all year, albeit against an oft injured team. The data is probably skewed by these losses, but on the surface the Spurs are just a terrible matchup. That 2 point loss earlier this week actually helped this number a ton too because going into the game the point differential was 27 (yikes). Should a situation arise where a loss is the difference between the 8th and 7th seed without worrying about falling out of playoffs, it might be in the Jazz best interest to lose and take the 8th. Jazz play Golden State far better, although again the data might be skewed because they were generally healthy for these games.

In a series, I think we can all safely say the Jazz probably won't advance. Outside of the data and just based on what my eyes have seen, the Jazz struggle against the Spurs. It seems like Hayward can't do anything against them and the team turns it over too much to last a series with a disciplined team that plays smart and has years and years of playoff experience. Golden State is the defending champion, but at least the Jazz can hang with them in Salt Lake. Plus, I think the Jazz style gives Golden State fits and it would be fun to steal a game from them on national television. Also, anything the Jazz can do to rough them up heading into round 2 would be beneficial. It comes down to Okc, who honestly, has some match up problems too in Durant and Westbrook, but they aren't as experienced and the Jazz have fought with them limping all year and done fine. Extra bonus, the Jazz get to battle Kanter for more motivation. Imagine the Booker vs. Enes battles on and off the court!

It's not to early to start thinking ahead.
If the Jazz take care of business, it's playoff time baby!
Go Jazz!

I'd prefer that the Jazz win out and let the chips fall where they may. That said, the team I'd most like to play in the first round is Golden State (which won't happen if we win out). I do not expect to beat any of these teams in a seven game series. Winning one game against any of them would make me very happy.

I don't wanna see the Thunder, I think it's the worst of the top 3 teams for us. We play the Warriors the toughest ironically.
I just don't want a sweep and I think we have the least chance to win a game against the Thunder.
Westbrook and Durant will torch us and we will struggle to out rebound them.

I like what we have done against the Warriors and woul like them first. Plus they likely win the title so you get to see what the best team in the NBA is like in the playoffs.

Second choice is OKC... Because they are so iso and foul dependent I think grind out games might favor us a bit. The issue is Westbrook is an alien and crushes Neto and Mack. Hayward plays really good position defense but Durant can easily shoot over him when he's in good position. They are a team that seems to lose focus a bit at times and I could see us taking a game.

Anyone except San Antonio... Just sick of those guys. They beat us every time and our guys just look so frustrated and confused about how they get very thing the want and force us to do exactly what they want. They do what we do just way better than us.

But then there is this data

I don't want to play The Spurs - the games will be boringly tedious and I've seen enough of Ginobli's, Parker's and Duncan's faces to last me ten lifetimes. I also think they will get swept and lose by the biggest point differentials.

The GSW's games will be more entertaining - for one thing I think Utah matches up better and can possibly win Game 3 or Game 4 if everything goes right.

Against OKC I can see Westbrook raping Utah PG's - Jazz just have no answers for their big two and their depth. However I think at least 3 of the 5 games (assuming The Jazz win one) will be reasonably close.

Dat point guardless triple wing lineup doe

I'd prefer(in descending order)

SAS
GSW
OKC

OKC makes us look foolish in 4, GSW would be a noble fight bt we lose in 4, SAS wold be another 7 game opening series for them.

even with that, we're still one defender shy of a good-to-elite level perimeter defense. We need an additional player on Hayward's level.

Burks isn't gonna slow Westbrook any more than Mack will.

(those rape metaphors, doe. smh)

I think Burks slows down westbrook more than neto and maybe more than mack but more importantly he makes westbrook play defense and possibly get into foul trouble.

Playoff possibility: Jazz catching fire at the right time and getting key players back. Miraculously win NBA Championship, thus shocking the world.

There have been rumors that Chicago is willing to move Jimmy Butler.

We all love Hood, and he should continue to improve, but offering him (and additional assets, obvi) for Butler might be too good to pass up, if Chicago is really interested in moving him. A Butler/Hayward tandem on the wings would be tantalizing.

Also, look at this tidbit from Butler:

"But I also believe that we probably have to be coached a lot harder at times. I'm sorry. I know Fred's a laid-back guy and I really respect him for that, but when guys aren't doing what they're supposed to do, you got to get on guys. Myself included. You got to do what you're supposed to do when you're out there playing basketball."

I think he'd love Snyder.

We're not catching Portland for the 6th seed; we'll either be playing SA or GS in the 1st round, and I'd much rather play the Warriors. We'd also get a higher draft pick with the 8th seed: win-win scenario by staying in 8th, IMO.

Yeah I really want that 30% 3pt shooting on our team.

Butler has been trash since All-Star break.

Whether or not we matchup with them the best, the Thunder are most likely to coast a little imo. The Warriors and Spurs almost always play an intense 48 minutes.

We're not catching Portland for the 6th seed;

Portland getting 5th seed bro.
5. Porty
6. Jazz
7. Dallas/houston/memphis
8. Dallas/Houston/memphis
9. Dallas/Houston/memphis

I didn't realize how tough Memphis' remaining schedule was. Aight, I'm down for chasing the 6th seed.
