Please Let This Be True

Does Andre Iguodala ring a bell? Players with this kind of athleticism, size, and BBIQ thrive in the league for a dozen plus years. Gordon's intangibles and extreme drive guarantee he's a good pick at 5. Did I mention his high BBIQ? Yeah, he's got plenty of that which separates the greats from the merely good players.

This plus I see him as a guy who will do all the dirty work on offense without complaint. He'll get 12-15 pts a night of off garbage and transition stuff which has a lot of value.

I think the problem people have is we have to get our "franchise player" and most people want that guy to score 25 a night. San Antonio's leading scorer scored like 17 pts a night. They proved you can do it as a team... without that one guy to take the last shot.

To me, there's a difference between excelling in college and being an NBA all-time great. But hey, that's just me.

You are mincing meaning. I already clarified what I meant. I take objection to the Rodman comp, because it insinuates A-God is just a rebounder/defender, when he is really good at so much more. As for what his NBA career will bring? Time will tell. Rodman is a horrible comp, that is all.

Skill-wise, what does Gordon excel at by the way? I'm genuinely asking.

On offense... good passer, good handle for a 4... average for a 3. He's also good at dunking basketballs. On defense I think he can lock down 3s and guard some 4s. Will likely struggle with the Aldridge's and Randolph's of the NBA.

Overall crazy good motor and athleticism. I think motor is a skill, some guys just play harder than others.

The way I see it. A-God's ceiling is a franchise player. His floor is an Iggy, Marion, AK type. Pretty good pick IMO.

I hate comps. But there you have it.

Gordon won't be as good of a rebounder as Rodman either so I'm not sure its a good comp. I still think Shawn Marion is the comp. Not a franchise player, but certainly a good piece to the puzzle.

Yeah, I don't think he will be that Rodman type rebounder either. All around, it is just a bad comp.

I see franchise potential in A. Gordon. Marion as floor, or mid-level. If he doesn't reach his full potential, I still see him as a really, really good player that helps us win. With all of his shooting flaws, his team was still ranked #1 for like 8 straight weeks. That has to tell you something about how he impacts the game.

That's fair. Until I looked back, I thought you had made the original comparison.

Payton is gonna be good as well. I'd rather gamble on Lavine though, since Lavine is the better shooter, is taller, and is one of the best athletes in the draft. Huge boom or bust with Lavine.

Lavine is like the Exum pick, except he is a better shooter, faster, jumps higher, and won't cost you nearly as much.

I can see this. I think Locke said he is the PF version of Joakim Noah. He does and will do a lot of things that don't show up on the box score that help you win. Noah's stats are good, but when you watch him you realize that he just puts his stamp on the game.

I also liked that Gordon played better in the tournament and didn't shy away from the moment. The Wisconsin game was probably the second best college game all year. He struggled shooting that game, but still was a monster on the glass.

Assuming we stay at 5 I want Gordon and then move up to get Payton. Payton is worth the gamble.

Agreed. we don't need/want 3 rookies. We need to keep the 5 and see how far the 23+35 can move us up. There is definitely some talent to be had late in the lottery.

Payton is way better than Lavine. DX mock has him going 8th now to Sacramento.

Yes. I agree he is better. Now. Payton has great defense, pg skills, team play, etc, and is just an all around cool kid. I really like him and think he'll be good, but he can't shoot.

I think our approach should be balanced. A-God is the non-shooter we should get.

Lavine is complete boom or bust. Fully realize this. But, he can shoot, is insanely athletic, has size, and won't cost much to nab. Hello Stampede.
