Had a discussion with my family about the correct plural for the Book of Mormon. We are evenly divided with 2 of us believing "Books of Mormon" is correct, and the other 2 siding with "Book of Mormons". I thought I would put it here to a poll since I couldn't find anything definitive on the Google.

In German, and I believe some other languages, it tends to the first option, as there is no good way to pluralize a name, so in German you say Bücher Mormon, or Books of Mormon. Maybe that is where I got it from. But I was just curious what the mix here thought it should be, considering we had a relatively intelligent group with a good mix of religious points of view (but not point of views =).

Books of Mormon.
/ thread

hmmm. . . this could be the real endless thread. I'm game. No not Game.

While admittedly there are millions of Mormons, they don't read the book much. The Bible is more popular with Mormons, they read it more, quote it more, and do all kinds of stuff to convince others they believe in the same things other Christians do. So the #1 Book of Mormons is the Bible.

Secondly, we are obviously dealing with the plural of the word "book" here, so it's Books. How can you question German logic?

If there is more than one, it becomes plural. There aren't multiple books of Mormon, there is just one... that has many copies. "Books of Mormon" makes more logical sense. However I found myself wanting to say "Book of Mormons", because of how my subconscious was trained.

Of course there is the argument that "The book of Mormon" as a title and stating the latter would fit best with rule of property.

I would never say "Book of Mormons" myself. I'd either say "Books of Mormon" or "Copies of the Book of Mormon".

The name of the book shouldn't change when you make it a plural. I vote "copies of the Book of Mormon"
I also have to agree with this one. The title shouldn't change when you make it plural. The title is "The Book of Mormon" therefore adding and S in either spot changes the name of the book.
.
For example if you tried to Plural "The Statue of Liberty" You can't say The Statues of Liberty or The Statue of Liberties. Neither of them make sense. So you would need to plural it with the other words not with the title. So (We have 3 copies of "The Book of Mormon".) makes more sense to me. Or (Could you grab "the Book of Mormon" Books for me?) would be another way to plural it.
.
Disclaimer: I paid little attention in English class in school so all of the above is just my opinion on the topic and could be completely wrong.

I think in that case you would say "Statues of Liberty".

I have seen both Statues of Liberty, the one in New York and the one in Vegas.

Why wasn't it called Books of Mormon in the first place? That's another problem with the first one. It describes one book. Books of Mormon is one Book of Mormon compendium of books, no?

My favorite books of Mormon are definitely Alma and Nephi. That's how I would use the first one.
